"A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE" SEPTEMBER 11,2001 WHEREAS, today we remember and honor those individuals who tragically perished in the senseless and destructive acts of terrorism on September 11, 2001; and WHEREAS, commemorating this tragic event allows us to recognize the heroic sacrifices and generosity of our nation's military service members, firefighters, rescue workers, law enforcement and public works personnel, and citizens; and WHEREAS, September 11 shall always be a sad reminder of the physical and emotional devastation of global conflict; yet it is also a day to unite with hope and vision for world peace; and WHEREAS, on September 11, 2008, we are strengthened by the wisdom, courage and compassion of those who pursue peace and justice in the world; and WHEREAS, Mount Prospect will commemorate and remember the events of September 11, 2001 with a remembrance ceremony to take place on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at the Mount Prospect Public Safety Building; and WHEREAS, all residents and businesses are encouraged to fly the United States flag at half-staff and observe a moment of silence on September 11, 2008 to honor those who died, and as a reminder of the freedom we cherish and a sign of solidarity and support for our country. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS ACTING IN THE EXERCISE OF THEIR HOME RULE POWERS: SECTION ONE: That this Resolution shall be publicized so all will know the citizens of Mount Prospect remember September 11, 2001 with sadness and unite to honor the men, women and children whose lives were suddenly and pointlessly taken; and SECTION TWO: That an official copy of this Resolution be suitably prepared and presented at the September 11, 2008 rememberance ceremony; and SECTION THREE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. Lisa Angell Village Clerk A PROCLAMA TION CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WEEK SEPTEMBER 8- 12, 2008 WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce works with the businesses, merchants and industry to advance the civic, economic, industrial, professional and cultural life of the Village of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, Chambers of Commerce have contributed to the civic and economic life of Illinois for 170 years since the founding of the Galena Chamber of Commerce in 1838; and WHEREAS, this year marks the 89th anniversary of the founding of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, the state's leading broad-based business organization which serves as the unified voice for business; and WHEREAS, Chambers of Commerce encourage the growth of existing industries, services and commercial firms, and encourages new businesses and individuals to locate in Illinois, acting as a liaison with the State of Illinois, local governments, schools and the business community; and WHEREAS, the State of Illinois is the home to international Chambers of Commerce, the Great Lakes Region Office of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and more than 456 local Chambers of Commerce; and WHEREAS, this marks the 93rd anniversary of the Illinois Association Chamber of Commerce Executives (IACCE), a professional development organization for the Chamber of Commerce professionals; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce and its members provide citizens with a strong business environment that increases employment, the retail trade and commerce and industrial growth in order to make the Village of Mount Prospect a better place to live. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim September 8 - 12, 2008 as "MOUNT PROSPECT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WEEK" and express sincere appreciation on behalf of the Mount Prospect Village Board and Staff for the steadfast efforts of all those involved in our local Chamber of Commerce. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 2nd day of September 2008 PROCLAMA TlON LIVE UNITED WEEK WHEREAS, during the Week of September 22 - 26, 2008 communities across the Northwest Suburban United Way region will be joining together to give people a chance to get involved and make lasting change in their community; and WHEREAS, educating people in the Northwest Suburbs about the state of health and human services in our region can lead to more volunteerism and improve conditions for all; and WHEREAS, by supporting three key issues-education, income and health-each person in Mount Prospect can help create opportunities for people to improve their lives so they can become independent; and WHEREAS, by giving our fellow citizens the chance to reach their potential, earn a living and build savings and to care for their health, not only will those individuals be helped but entire neighborhoods will be strengthened; and WHEREAS, residents and corporations in the Village of Mount Prospect can join together to improve lives by giving, advocating or volunteering to provide food for people in need in the community of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, to help achieve this goal, the Northwest Suburban United Way invites all residents of the Village of Mount Prospect to participate in LIVE UNITED WEEK, advancing the common good. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of September 22 - 26, 2008 as LIVE UNITED WEEK in Mount Prospect and call upon the residents of Mount Prospect to observe this week with appropriate programs, activities, and ceremonies that advance the common good.
