HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.4 PROCLAMATION: Gun Violence Awareness Month - June 2023Mr�GauC �'d'+rt;�iect Subject Meeting Fiscal Impact Dollar Amount Budget Source Category Type Information O.s ATTACHMENTS: Gun Violence Awareness.pdf PROCLAMATION: Gun V• - - Awareness June 2023 1 June 6, 2023 - REGULAR MEETING OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT VILLAGE BOARD - IQ&we 0.4 -VR; 190,14 Information Item 1 PROCLAMATION Gun Violence Awareness Month June 2023 WHEREAS, gun violence touches every segment of our society and impacts people of all ages; it increases the probability of death in incidents of domestic violence; raises the likelihood of fatality by those who intend to injure others; it places children and young people at increased risk of physical harm and injury; and disproportionately affects communities of color; and WHEREAS, gun violence prevention is more important than ever as effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to exacerbate gun violence, after more than three years of increased gun sales, increased calls to suicide and domestic violence hotlines, and an increase in gun violence in our cities, towns and villages; and WHEREAS, cities across the nation, including Mount Prospect, are working to end the senseless violence with evidence -based solutions; and WHEREAS, support for the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens goes hand-in-hand with keeping guns away from people with dangerous histories; and WHEREAS, in the wake of the recent unthinkable gun tragedies, as a community, must demand action by our lawmakers to stop these senseless acts of violence; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to set aside time to honor those Americans whose lives are cut short each year by gun violence, and the countless survivors whose lives are forever altered. NOW THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim June 2023, to be National Gun Violence Awareness Month in the Village of Mount Prospect and I encourage all citizens to support local efforts to prevent the tragic effects of gun violence and to honor and value human lives.
