SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
Saturday, June 7, 2008
Village Hall- 9:00 a.m.
CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Tom Zander called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Present: Dawn Collins, Sandy DiCaro, Dale Draznin, Jill Friedrichs, Eileen Gattas, Christina
Greco, Martha Helm, Linda Hoefert, Kathy Janonis, Mike Janonis, Paul Seils, Jim
Uszler, Teresa VanOpdorp, Laury Youngquist, Tom Zander
Absent: Janice Farley
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Dale Draznin. seconded by Jill Friedrichs, moved to approve the
minutes of the May 3,2008 meeting. Motion approved.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Sandy DiCaro moved and Kathy Janonis seconded to approve the
Treasurer's Report of May 31, 2008. Motion approved.
CURRENT BUSINESS:
1. Fine Arts Festival: Teresa reported there are 40 artists at the present time who will be
participating. Our goal was 50 participants. Three $500 scholarships were offered but
there would not be any awarded this year. At present, there are only 5 Purchase
Awards. Banners were being hung to advertise the Fine Arts Festival and Blues Fest.
The Blues Fest will take place in front of the Village Hall and run from 2:00-9:00.
2. Fourth of July Parade: Jill stated there were 50 entries as of this meeting and passed
out a tentative list of participants. There was a question raised as to whether the parade
floats and participants should be judged and awards given out. Commission members
felt this would be difficult to do and decided against it.
3. Do-it-Yourself Sousa: The entry fee was raised from $5 per group to $5 per person.
Martha said this was due to Michael (Galemo) raising his fee from $400 to $450. Tom
Zander will donate the flags for the audience this year. 500 flags will be ordered.
Martha has sent in the registration form to have the event advertised on the Village sign.
The music for the participants will be copied on July 2nd to mail out. A point was
brought up regarding the need for lighting around the band shell when the event is over.
Members felt this could eliminate safety issues as the audience departs.
ADJOURNMENT: The June 7, 2008 meeting of the Mount Prospect Special Events
Commission adjourned at 9:50 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Eileen Gattas
