Northwest Highway Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 MINUTES May 5, 2008 Public Safety Building Fire Department Conference Room Chairman Busse called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Roll Call: George Busse, Chairman Marie Cotten, Secretary Robert McKillop, Commissioner Hank Friedrichs III, Commissioner Also Present: Michael Figolah, Fire Chief John Dahlberg, Chief of Police Commissioner Skowron arrived at 6:14 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Cotten and seconded by Commissioner McKillop to accept the minutes of the April 7, 2008, Open Meeting. Voice Vote: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, Friedrichs, McKillop, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Figolah gave a brief report on Fire Department staffing. POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Dahlberg reported on Police Department staffing. The Chief informed the Board that a tentative date of May ih at 1 :00 p. m. has been set for a new officer to be sworn in. This will be confirmed tomorrow. APPROVE BOFPC RULES & REGULATIONS REVISIONS After a brief discussion, the Board approved the rules and regulations with the following changes: 1. Chapter 1, Section 2, C. - The Board does not want the ~e,nQun and/or pronoun to be used to include the feminine. Change the masculine reference to he/she (or appropriate term) throughout the document. 2. Chapter 2, Section 2, D, 4. Oral Interview: 1st paragraph - Add, "candidates who have a final oral test aggregate score of less than 80 will be eliminated from further consideration." 3. Chapter 2, Section 2, D, 4. Backqround Investiqation: A format issue - there are 2 subsection 4's. This will require changing the number format for 5 - 10. Chairman Busse asked for a motion to approve the Revised Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Mount Prospect, as amended. A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Friedrichs. Roll Call: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, Friedrichs, McKillop, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried Page 2 Minutes 5/5/08 Chairman Busse asked for a motion recommending that the Village Board consider the Revised Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Mount Prospect, as amended, for the purposes of adoption at their regularly scheduled Board meeting on May 20, 2008. A motion was made by Commissioner Skowron and seconded by Commissioner Cotten. Roll Call: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, Friedrichs, McKillop, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried Chairman Busse asked for a motion to go into Closed Session under 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) (1) of the Open Meetings Act to approve minutes and discuss personnel. A motion was made by Commissioner Friedrichs and seconded by Commissioner Skowron to go into closed session at 6:34 p.m. to approve minutes and discuss personnel. Roll Call: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, Friedrichs, McKillop, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried The Board reconvened at 6:59 p.m. with everyone present. OTHER BUSINESS Chief Dahlberg distributed a memorandum prepared by Deputy Chief Semkiu regarding Stanard and Associates Testing fees for the Oral Board Interview Training. Dates for this training will be discussed at the next meeting. The Chief also reported the department has received 411 preliminary applications for police officer to date. The next meeting will be held on June 2, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. This being their last meeting, Chairman Busse thanked Commissioners McKillop and Cotten for their service to the Board. The Board members congratulated Commissioner McKillop on receiving the Cook County Sheriff's Senior Citizen Medal of Honor for his years of community service to Mount Prospect and his service to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. They also congratulated Chief Figolah for being named Fire Chief of the Year.
