Northwest Highway Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS Phone 847/870-5656 MINUTES April 7, 2008 Public Safety Building Fire Department Conference Room Chairman McKillop called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Roll Call: George Busse, Commissioner Marie Cotten, Secretary Robert McKillop, Commissioner Michaele Skowron, Commissioner Hank Friedrichs III, Commissioner Also Present: Irvana Wilks, Mayor Michael Figolah, Fire Chief John Dahlberg, Chief of Police Chairman McKillop welcomed the two new Commissioners and turned the meeting over to the new Chairman, George Busse. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Cotten and seconded by Commissioner McKillop to accept the minutes of the March 4, 2008, Open Meeting. Voice Vote: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Abstain: Friedrichs, Skowron Motion Carried FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Figolah gave a brief report on Fire Department staffing. . POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Dahlberg reported on Police Department staffing. Since there will be two Sergeants retiring in May, the two officers on the February 5, 2008, Sergeant's List were offered a position. One officer has already accepted the position. The Chief gave a brief update on the department's police officer testing scheduled for June 22" and June 29th. So far 210 applications have been received. The department's new recruiting Website, www.mood.orq, is now available. Chief Dahlberg informed the Board that he will be attending the Police Executive Research Forum Conference, where Shanetta Y. Cutlar will be conducting a Round Table Discussion on what she has learned as Chief of the Special Litigation Section of the Department of Justice, REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF BOFPC RULES & REGULATIONS REVISIONS Chairman Busse postponed this item until next month. Mayor Wilks attended the meeting to thank the Board members for the time and effort they put into revising the BOFPC Rules and Regulations. Mayor Wilks left the meeting at 6:30 p.m. Chairman Busse asked for a motion to go into Closed Session under Section 2C1 of the Open Meetings Act to approve minutes. Page 2 Minutes 4/7/08 A motion was made by Commissioner McKillop and seconded by Commissioner Cotten to go into closed session at 6:30 p.m. to approve minutes and discuss personnel. Roll Call: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, Friedrichs, McKillop, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried The Board reconvened at 7:05 p.m. with everyone present. OTHER BUSINESS Chief Figolah provided a brief introduction for the new members on general procedures. Chairman Busse gave a brief overview of the Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners Association Conference held every spring and fall. . Chief Dahlberg asked the Chairman to sign the letter announcing the Reading List for the Sergeants Promotional Exam. Chief Dahlberg informed the Board that Commissioner McKillop will be receiving the Cook County Sheriffs Senior Citizen Medal of Honor for his years of community service to Mount Prospect and his service to the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Chairman Busse stated future meetings will be held the first Monday of the month. The next meeting will be scheduled for May 5th at 6:00 p.m. A motion was made by Commissioner Friedrichs and seconded by Commissioner Skowron to adjourn the meeting at 7:28 p.m. Voice Vote: Ayes: Busse, Cotten, Friedrichs, McKillop, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried Minutes transcribed by Diane Rhode, Executive Secretary to Chief John Dahlberg.
