Discussion Item
The Village Board will discuss proposed next steps to mitigate the Fairview
Gardens neighborhood stormwater management problem. This is the second
Village Board discussion of this topic. This matter was first considered at the July
2022 Committee of the Whole meeting (Agenda Packet / Meeting Video).
The crux of the problem is that the sewer pump station serving the neighborhood
is getting old and needs replacement.
However, replacing the pump station requires a permit from the Metropolitan
Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC). MWRDGC will NOT
issue a permit to replace the pump station in kind.
To obtain a permit, the discharge capacity of the pump station would hav,-.
to be reduced by approximately two-thirds (66%). This reduction would
result in frequent - - back-ups events.
Mount Prospect Public Works Department staff, along with engineers from the
Village's consultant, the Ciorba Group, will recap the problem as well as
investigative work and corrective work completed since the last discussion of this
matter.

Staff will also present a plan to launch a pilot project limited to a small group of
homes (23). The pilot project will test the efficacy and affordability of
disconnecting direct footing the connections and removing outdoor drains
(driveway drains, exterior stairwell drains, etc.) from the sanitary sewer system.
Disconnecting these systems will remove considerable amounts of clear (storm)
water from the sanitary system and push it through the proper storm water
systems, reducing the capacity need of the sanitary pump station.
Additional information and supporting documents can be viewed on the project

Staff mailed a letter to the entire subdivision (301 homes) sharing the meeting
date and time as well as communicated the meeting information through social
media.
