MAYORS REPORT 05/06/2008 PROCLAMA TION TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH "50TH ANNIVERSARY" 1958-2008 WHEREAS, in 1957 nine (9) residents inspired by faith, encouraged in population growth and motivated by a desire to serve, held the first planning meeting to consider establishing a Methodist Church in the Village of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, on May 18, 1958 TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH was issued a Certificate of Organization with eighty-eight (88) charter members, and Reverend Donald M Thomas appointed as Pastor; and WHEREAS, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURH, has for five (5) memorable decades been a part of Mount Prospect's history, and serves as an essential link to the spiritual needs, educational growth and social well-being of its members and community; and WHEREAS, the TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH congregation has generously supported and financed needed facility projects and expansions to accommodate membership growth, facilitate spiritual education programs and provide community based services including, a Nursery School open to all families in Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, opened its facilities to two (2) separate Korean congregations until the members could afford their own house of worship ; and WHEREAS, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, is sensitive to the struggles and basic needs of humanity, participating in a Prison Ministry at Cook County jail, bringing the work of God and prayer to all seeking his voice, contributing volunteer hours andfunding to Habitat for Humanity, and since 1990 welcomed the homeless as a host sitefor the Public Assistance Delivery System (PADS); and WHERAS, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, advocates diversity through its participation in a clothes closet, English as a Second Language program (ESL) and the outreach efforts of the NIAGRA Foundation; and WHEREAS, in 1996, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, dedicated a Memorial Center to honor and thank God for the deceased church members whose faith and commitment were fundamental to the church ministry; and WHEREAS, TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, as an active participant in the Mount Prospect Interfaith Council recognizes the significant role of the Faith Community in the Village of Mount Prospect, and whose commitment to a Christian Community growing infaith and a desire to serve God's children in Mount Prospect and the world beyond, moves forward with a vision, "Trinity - A Pathway Home to God. " NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, along with the Mount Prospect Village Board of Trustees, do hereby extend our sincere congratulations to TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH on this truly momentous occasion and encourage everyone to recognize the many contributions the congregation has made to our community. PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK" May 18-24,2008 WHEREAS, the services provided by the Public Works Department in our community are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives; and WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed community is vital to the efficient operation of a public works system and its many programs relating to water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, public grounds, solid waste collection, recycling, trees, and snow removal; and WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design and construction are dependent upon the efforts and skills of public works employees; and WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Public Works Department will have an Open House on Saturday, May 17, 2008, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., to acquaint the residents of Mount Prospect with the many services provided by the Public Works Department. NOW, THEREFORE, L Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of May 18-24, 2008 as "NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the various services provided by the Mount Prospect Public Works Department to assure the health, safety and comfort of our residents.
