HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1 PROCLAMATION: Domestic Abuse Awareness MonthMr�GauC �'d'+rt;�iect Meeting Fiscal Impact Dollar Amount Budget Source Category Type Information Alternatives October 4, 2022 - REGULAR MEETING OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT VILLAGE BOARD - MAYORS REPORT Information Item ATTACHMENTS: DOM ESTICVIOLENCEAWARENESSMONTH2022. pdf 1 PROCLAMATION "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH" October 2022 WHEREAS, violence against women and children continues to become a more prevalent problem in the Northwest Suburbs; and WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence affects all citizens of Illinois and are not confined to any group of people, but cross all economic, gender, racial and societal barriers and are supported by societal indifference; and WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security and humanity through the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic control and/or abuse; and WHEREAS, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime; and WHEREAS, over 30,000 orders of protections are written in Cook County, Illinois each year; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is a prevalent issue facing every community and it takes courage for a survivor to seek help; and WHEREAS, local organizations such as the Northwest Suburban Alliance on Domestic Violence and the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic are dedicated to keeping individuals and families safe and combat domestic violence; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to set aside a special time to bring this issue to the attention of all residents of the Village of Mount Prospect so they can become better informed and involved in local programs to end the cycle of violence. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2022 as "DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH" in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I encourage our residents to join forces with local social service organizations, law enforcement and concerned citizens across the country to raise the public awareness of domestic violence issues.
