HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.1 PROCLAMATION: National Safe Boating Week - May 21-27, 2022Mr�GauC �'d'+rt;�iect Subject Meeting Fiscal Impact Dollar Amount Budget Source Category Type Information O.s PROCLAMATION:. r r Week - May 21-27,2022 May 17, 2022 - REGULAR MEETING OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT VILLAGE BOARD - IQ&we 0.4 -VR; 190,14 Information Item ATTACHMENTS: National SafeBoatingWeek2022.pdf 1 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" May 21 - 27, 2022 WHEREAS, National Safe Boating Week is part of the North American Safe Boating Campaign, which unites the efforts of a wide variety of boating safety advocates, including the United States Coast Guard, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, and the National Safe Boating Council; and WHEREAS, on average, 650 people die each year in boat -related accidents in the U.S.; approximately 75% of these are fatalities caused by drowning; and WHEREAS, the vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error or poor judgement and not by the boat, equipment, or environmental factors; and WHEREAS, a significant number of boaters who lose their lives by drowning each year would be alive today had they worn their life jackets; and WHEREAS, today's life jackets are more comfortable, more attractive, and more wearable than styles of years past and deserve a fresh look by today's boating public. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby support the goals of the Safe Boating Campaign and proclaim the week of May 21-27, 2022 as "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" and the start of the year-round effort to promote safe boating in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I urge all residents to who participate in boating related activities to practice safe boating habits and to wear a life jacket at all times while boating.
