ROLL CALL Secretary Cindy Rumore called the roll. MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES DECEMBER 05, 2007 PAGE TWO APPROVAL OF MINUTES Steve Long, seconded by Michael Higginson, moved to approve the minutes of the November 07, 2007 Youth Commission meeting with the amending of the spelling of Marilyn Genther’s name. Motion carried by unanimous approval. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Angelo Campos, Michael Higginson, Alyssa Hillman, Steve Long VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZATION MEETINGS Chairwoman Nicole Logisz passed around the sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission / organization meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for various meetings. YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG Steve Long to contact Maura El Metennani, to include the Youth Resource Catalog on the Village Youth Commission website. RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE Michael Artwohl, Adam Kiel, Nicole Logisz, Derek Steinweg Chairwoman Nicole Logisz and Alyssa Hillman submitted the recruitment video announcement to Hersey High School to be played during morning announcements. Chairwoman Nicole Logisz contacted the head of the National Junior Honor’s Society at River Trails Middle School and will attend their December 19, 2007 meeting to discuss Youth Commission recruitment. A/A George Clowes also submitted the recruitment video to the Village TV Department to play on cable. A/A David Schein to contact principal at Lincoln Middle School to discuss recruitment on behalf of the Youth Commission. BICYCLE HELMET COMMITTEE Derek Steinweg Derek Steinweg contacted Mrs. Dix and she would be interested in participating again this spring in the Bicycle Helmet Coupon Distribution Program. She has issued an additional 50 coupons for distribution. MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES DECEMBER 05, 2007 PAGE THREE COMPUTER DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE Steve Long, Michael Higginson, Daniel Milewski Marilyn Genther from the Mount Prospect Public Library attended the meeting to discuss senior interest in Computer Distribution Program. Consensus was most seniors already have their own computers and are looking for additional computer training. Members discussed assisting library volunteers with training programs as another option. Ms. Genther to advise library volunteers of Youth Commission’s interest in helping with library programs. Ms. Genther advised Mount Prospect Historical Society is also looking for volunteers and will keep the Youth Commission in mind for future events. Motion: Daniel Milewski, seconded by Derek Steinweg, moved to change the Computer Distribution Committee to the Community Volunteer Committee. Motion carried by unanimous approval. OLD BUSINESS YOUTH COMMISSION ANNUAL REPORT Chairwoman Nicole Logisz, Co Chair Steve Long and members of the Youth Commission presented the Youth Commission Annual Report at the Village Board Meeting on Tuesday, December 04, 2007. YOUTH VIEW A/A Mr. Clowes advised the current Youth View, “Substance Abuse” will run in December and the January program “Obesity” has also been taped. The next Youth View taping dates were unavailable at meeting time. Members discussed topics for future Youth Views and Chairwoman Nicole Logisz advised members to email Mr. Clowes their ideas. A/A Schein advised a possible Youth View topic involving the current Village traffic study. POO POO ORDINANCE At the November meeting Mayor Wilks challenged Youth Commission members to help with a current situation in the Village, owners allowing their dogs to “poop” on public and private property. Youth Commission members discussed the issue and possible solutions: signage provided or sold by the Village to be displayed on properties, advise homeowner to apply liquid fence on their property to deter animals, photograph the dogs when they are committing the crime, fence the property where appropriate, police enforcement. YOUTH COMMISSION ORDINANCE Discussion was held regarding the Youth Commission Ordinance and the section on the duties of the Youth Commission. Members discussed how to comply with specific duties and talked about possible programs to satisfy their duties: teen town meetings, Youth in Government Day, new youth programs. Members to brainstorm further programs and be prepared to discuss their ideas at the January meeting. NEW BUSINESS JANUARY YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING January Youth Commission meeting was changed from January 02 to January 09, 2008 due to school holiday break. MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES DECEMBER 05, 2007 PAGE FOUR OTHER BUSINESS YOUTH COMMISSION CLOTHING th Member Derek Steinweg advised the Mount Prospect Youth Commission celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2007 and designed a logo commemorating the milestone. Members motioned to purchase hoody sweatshirts and imprint the logo on the front. Derek Steinweg, seconded by Daniel Milewski, motioned to purchase hoody sweatshirts to commemorate the th Mount Prospect Youth Commission 10 year anniversary with special imprint, pending approval by the Village Manager. MOTION TO ADJOURN Steve Long, seconded by Michael Higginson, moved to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval. MEETING ADJOURNED Chairwoman Nicole Logisz adjourned the meeting at 8:26 p.m. /cjr
