HomeMy WebLinkAbout4.2 PROCLAMATION: Supporting the People of UkraineMr�GauC �'d'+rt;�iect Meeting Fiscal Impact Dollar Amount Budget Source Category Type Information Alternatives ATTACHMENTS: Ukraine.pdf March 15, 2022 - REGULAR MEETING OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT VILLAGE BOARD - MAYORS REPORT Information Item 1 Proclamation Supporting the People of Ukraine WHEREAS, the people of Ukraine gained their independence from Soviet Russia in 1991, have built a democratic and pluralistic society, which allows for freedom of religion, speech and fosters the growth of their rich culture allowing them to take their rightful place on the world stage; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2022, Russian forces, under the direction of Vladimir Putin, launched an invasion of Ukraine the likes of which we have not seen since World War II, killing thousands and creating a crisis on a global scale, forcing hundreds of thousands of civilians to flee, and blatantly violating international law; and WHEREAS, the United States has condemned this unprovoked and unjustified attack, and reassured that it supports all actions taken by the Ukrainian military and all those involved in defending Ukraine; and WHEREAS, The Village of Mount Prospect is home to many Ukrainian Americans who bring with them their identity, rich culture and strengthen our diverse community, and many have come to Mount Prospect as immigrants and been welcomed with open arms to our Village and have added to our economy, public service and helped our community flourish into the wonderful Village it is today. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Paul Wm. Hoefert, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby stand in solidarity with our Ukrainian community and encourage all residents of Mount Prospect to join together for a Day of Prayer for Ukraine on Sunday, March 20, 2022 to show solidarity in their fight against Russian forces and to restore peace, justice and civility in their country. And each evening, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Central Standard Time, as Ukrainian people are awakened by the sound of airstrikes and shelling, I ask each member of our community to spend a moment in quiet solitude and pray for a peaceful night of rest for people of Ukraine.
