CALL TO ORDER
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz called the November 07, 2007 Youth Commission meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. in
the first floor training room of the Police and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Derek Steinweg, seconded by Daniel Milewski, moved to approve the minutes of the October 03, 2007 Youth
Commission meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval.
Daniel Milewski, seconded by Michael Higginson, moved to approve the minutes of the October 20, 2007 Youth
Commission meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE

YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG
Steve Long completed the Youth Resource catalog and suggested posting on the Youth Commission website as
well as a link with the library.
VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZATION MEETINGS
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz created a sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission / organization
meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for various
meetings.
RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE
Michael Artwohl, Adam Kiel, Nicole Logisz, Derek Steinweg
A/A George Clowes advised Chairwoman Nicole Logisz, Angelo Campos, Steve Long, and Derek Steinweg
made four recruitment video announcements at the last Youth View taping. Announcements were reviewed by
Youth Commission members. Copies of the videos to be sent to Prospect and Hersey High Schools to play
during morning school announcements and before Village Board meetings.
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz and Derek Steinweg to attend the National Junior Honor’s Society meeting at River
Trails Middle School to discuss Youth Commission recruitment.
Mayor Wilks discussed the letters for Youth Commission recruitment she sent to local schools. The principal
from Prospect High School submitted three names to Mayor Wilks for consideration.
Mayor Wilks encouraged members to revise their Youth Commission flyer to include pictures of current
members at events. Names of members and adult advisors should also be included. Chairwoman Nicole Logisz
discussed updating the Village Youth Commission website. Mayor Wilks advised members to contact Maura El
Metennani, Village Public Information, for assistance.
BICYCLE HELMET COMMITTEE
Derek Steinweg
Derek Steinweg contacted Officer Roscop regarding the coupon distribution at the Annual Family Bike Ride.
Officer Roscop advised all attendees were in compliance with wearing their bicycle helmets and noted that this
event was not the best to hand out coupons. Everyone agreed the summer time would be a better distribution
time to promote bicycle helmet use. Derek Steinweg to contact Mrs. Dix to see if she would be interested in
participating next year in the program.

Chairwoman Nicole Logisz read the thank you notes Alyssa Hillman wrote to Mrs. Dix for her participation in
the Bicycle Helmet Coupon Program and Mrs. Weiss, retired teacher at Indian Grove Elementary School, on the
completion of the Bicycle Helmet Coupon Program.
COMPUTER DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM

Steve Long contacted Nancy Morgan, Human Services, regarding senior interest in a computer program. Ms.
Morgan advised of a similar program in place at the library. Liability issues were the main concern brought up
for discussion. Members discussed different aspects of the program; computer set-up, trouble shooting, training,
etc.
Mayor Wilks suggested contacting Marilyn Genther from the library to discuss their program and the community
interest in this program. Chairwoman Nicole Logisz suggested members attend a library training program.
OLD BUSINESS
LIBRARY DISPLAY CASE LOTTERY
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz was contacted by the library regarding the library display case lottery. The Youth
Commission will have elevation A in June 2008 for their display. Members to discuss the content of the display
case at a later meeting.
YOUTH COMMISSION ANNUAL REPORT
Members met at Oberweis Dairy Saturday, October 20, 2007 to discuss the annual Youth Commission report to
the Village Board for July 2006 – October 2007. Chairwoman Nicole Logisz read the draft created for members
to approve. The presentation will be made to the Village Board on Tuesday, December 04, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. and
all members were encouraged to attend.
YOUTH VIEW
Members discussed the next Youth View taping, “A Moment of Silence” in schools. Mayor Wilks advised
Representative Carolyn Krause would be an ideal panelist to discuss this topic. A/A George Clowes to contact
Representative Krause and invite her to participate in the program.
NEW BUSINESS
YOUTH COMMISSION COMMITTEES
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz discussed the current committees. At this time, members felt the Bicycle Helmet
Committee had accomplished their goal and decided to dissolve the committee.
Steve Long, seconded by Derek Steinweg, moved to dissolve the Bicycle Helmet Committee. Motion carried by
unanimous approval.

YOUTH COMMISSION ORDINANCE
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz advised at the January 03, 2007 meeting, Youth Commission members
recommended to change the age qualification of Youth Commission members to 12 years of age or the
completion of fifth grade. Members specifically requested the change under appointment to state, “after the
completion of fifth grade,” and the membership as stated between the ages of 12 and 21. A letter will be sent to
the Village Clerk advising of the recommendation of the change and request it be forwarded to the Mayor and
the Village Board.
Mayor Wilks pointed out the Youth Commission Ordinance does not specify the number of adult advisors to be
appointed for the Youth Commission.
Chairwoman Nicole Logisz requested everyone to read through the Youth Commission Ordinance and the
section on Committees, the duties of the Youth Commission, to brainstorm ideas for discussion at the December
meeting.
OTHER BUSINESS
YOUTH CONFERENCE
Mayor Wilks discussed the possibility of sending Youth Commission members to participate in a youth
conference sponsored by the White House, “Helping America’s Youth.”
YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT DAY
Mayor Wilks asked the Youth Commission to request the Village Board to pass a resolution acknowledging
“Youth in Government Day.”
Mayor Wilks would like a greater visibility for the Youth Commission and has challenged members to help with
a current situation in the Village, owners allowing their dogs to “poop” on public and private property. Youth
Commission members to contact various Village departments to research the problem and how to properly
handle the concern and advise the Village Board of their findings.
MOTION TO ADJOURN
Steve Long, seconded by Daniel Milewski, moved to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried by unanimous approval.
