PROCLAMA TION
"FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
OCTOBER 7-13, 2007
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting
our community; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are the locations
where people are at greatest risk from fire; and
WHEREAS, the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has documented through its research
that home fires have increased by 2 Y2 percent from last year and only 23% of residents have planned and
practiced home escape plans; and
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect's first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and
home fire injuries through prevention and protection education; and
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect residents are responsive to public education measures and are able to take
personal steps to increase their safety from fire; and
WHEREAS, residents who have planned and practiced a home fire escape plan are more prepared and will
be more likely to survive a fire; and
WHEREAS, businesses should plan and practice fire and life safety escape plans to better serve their
employees; and
WHEREAS, the 2007 Fire Prevention Week theme; "It's Fire Prevention Week - Practice Your Escape
Plan!" reminds us all of the simple action to work with your family to evacuate your home in the event of an
emergency; and
WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Fire Department is committed to the safety of life and property from
devastating effects of fire; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Fire Department are joined by other concerned residents of Mount
Prospect, as well as other emergency service providers and safety advocates, businesses, schools, service
clubs and organizations in their fire safety efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard M. Lohrstorfer, Mayor Pro Tem of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby
proclaim the week of October 7-13 as
"FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
in the Village, and I call upon the people of the Village of Mount Prospect to remember the 2007 message to
"Practice Your Escape Plan!".

"NA TIONAL COMMUNITY PLANNING MONTH"
OCTOBER 2007
WHEREAS, change is constant and affects all cities, towns, suburbs, counties, boroughs,
townships, rural areas, and other places; and
WHEREAS, community planning and plans can help manage this change in a way that
provides better choices for how people work and live; and
WHEREAS, community planning provides an opportunity for all residents to be meaningfully
involved in making choices that determine the future of their community; and
WHEREAS, the full benefits of planning requires public officials and citizens who
understand, support, and demand excellence in planning and plan implementation; and
WHEREAS, the month of October is designated as National Community Planning Month
throughout the United States of America and its territories, and
WHEREAS, The American Planning Association and its professional institute, the American
Institute of Certified Planners, endorse National Community Planning Month as an
opportunity to highlight the contributions sound planning and plan implementation make to
the quality of our settlements and environment; and
WHEREAS, the celebration of National Community Planning Month gives us the opportunity
to publicly recognize the participation and dedication of the members of the Planning and
Zoning Commission and other citizen planners who have contributed their time and
expertise to the improvement of the Village of Mount Prospect: and
WHEREAS, we recognize the many valuable contributions made by professional community
and regional planners of the Village of Mount Prospect Community Development
Department and extend our heartfelt thanks for the continued commitment to public service
by these professionals;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard M. Lohrstorfer, Mayor Pro Tem of the Village of Mount
Prospect, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2007 as
"COMMUNITY PLANNING MONTH"
in the Village of Mount of Mount Prospect.

"NA TIONAL BREAST CANCER A WARENESS MONTH"
OCTOBER 2007
WHEREAS, October, 2007 is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, October 19,2007 is National Mammography Day; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, except for skin cancer; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer; and
WHEREAS, the chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman's life is about 1 in 8;
and
WHEREAS, almost 212,920 new cases of female breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2007 and about 40,970
will die of the disease; and
WHEREAS, African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer than women of all other races;
and
WHEREAS, an estimated 1,720 cases of male breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2007 and about 460 men
will die of the disease; and
WHEREAS, death rates from breast cancer have been declining, and this change is believed to be the result
of earlier detection and improved treatment; and
WHEREAS, mammography - an "x-ray" of the breast- is recognized as the single most effective method of
detecting breast changes that may be cancer long before physical symptoms can be seen or felt.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Richard M. Lohrstorfer, Mayor Pro Tem of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby
proclaim the month of October, 2007 as
UNA TIONAL BREAST CANCER A WARENESS MONTH"
and October 19, 2007 as
UNA TlONAL MAMMOGRAPHY DA Y"
in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I encourage our residents to participate in this observance and
remember "Early Detection Saves Lives."
