There was discussion about a case for the quilt from the patchworkers. 4th of Julv Parade The float is number 65 in the parade. There are flyers to be handed out. Thanksl!ivinl! in October Banquet The banquet is scheduled for Thursday, October 27 at the Avalon Banquet Hall. The subcommittee will meet Aug. 23. The community band has agreed to perform. It was suggested that the students from Prospect High School that traveled to Sevres be invited to attend and give a report. There was discussion as to whether they would be allowed to attend as there was alcohol being served at the event. It was suggested that the teachers could provide a report. Renee and Terry Quinn may visit from Sevres so they could attend the banquet. Sister Cities International Conferences The Sister Cities International (SCI) Conference in 2005 is in Spokane, Washington. In 2006 it is in Washington, DC for the organization's 50th Anniversary. The conference will mark the launch of a year-long celebration. They are seeking sponsors. The requested amount is $500. Melanie Karsen moved that at the December meeting the Commission discuss a possible contribution to the Sister Cities International 50th Anniversary Celebration. The motion was seconded by Lil Floros. The motion passed. Dorothy also received an email from SCI about a 50th Anniversary Book that is being compiled. They are asking for photos and stories from members. The deadline is Oct. 1. Rachel Toppen offered to coordinate. Joint Proiect - 2006 The Commission discussed organizing ajoint project with the Hoffman Estates and Palatine Sister Cities groups (who also have Sister Cities in France). Judy Thome suggested a musical performance with people from each city. Discussion followed about whether to do a joint fundraising effort. Melanie Karsen suggested doing something locally first before taking on a larger project. Rachel Toeppen talked about the Jasper San Felipo mansion in Barrington as a possible location for a fundraiser. Melanie Karsen moved that the Commission do something locally first, and discuss in the future doing a joint project with the French Sister Cities. Rachel suggested that the Commission discuss establishing "friends" of Sister Cities. They could pay nominal dues Melanie suggested getting them involved in an event. Lil said they could be involved without setting up a separate organization. Mayor Wilks said that having a group of interested people was good in the case of a resignation or vacancy on the Commission. A suggestion for an event was a wine tasting at Harper College with the other two communities.
