CITIZENS TO BE HEARD,
Chairman Powers read verbatim the comment from an email the Board of Fire and Police Commission
received on January 20 from Lindsay Kulak expressing concern over the use of the thin blue line on the
police patch.
Chairman Powers responded:
Thank you for your comments regarding the patch, which includes the symbol of the "Blue Line"
worn by the Mount Prospect Police Officers. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
(BOFPC) has a very distinct and restricted area of responsibility. What you have raised in your
comments does not fall under the BOFPC areas of responsibility, which are the Testing,
Screening, Hiring and discipline of rank and file Fire Fighter/Paramedics and Police Officers.
Ms. Ronak McFadden joined the meeting via video conference and expressed her concern over the
police patch. She believes since the Board does oversee the hiring it would fall under their purview.
Chairman Powers thanked her for her comments.
