Zadel proclamation final peak.pdf 1 PROCLAMATION ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF MICHAEL A. ZADEL TO THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL a proud, and loyal resident of the Village of Mount Prospect since 1950, grew up on Pine Street in a home his parents built, graduated from Prospect High School, and built an adult life centered on family and community in Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL, is the endearing husband of Carolyn Merkle Zadel, proud father of Christopher, Adam and Suzy, Stepfather of Cari and Todd and adoring Pappy of Cason, Billie, Anthony and Gwyneth; and WHEREAS, on September 13. 1974, MICHAEL A. ZADEL joined the Mount Prospect Village staff as a maintenance worker for Public Works, was promoted to Forestry Foreman in 1976 and until his resignation in 1984, was a valued and dependable Village employee; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL, continued his illustrious career as Superintendent of Maintenance for the Village of Schaumburg from 1984 until 1990 when he accepted a position as Roadway Maintenance Manager with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority until his retirement in 2013; and WHEREAS, Michael A. Zadel began his civic involvement as a member of the Mount Prospect Plan Commission from 1997 until his resignation in 2001; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL served with honor on the Mount Prospect Board of Trustees from 2001 until the end of his fifth term in 2021, earning a reputation for responsible fiscal leadership, ardent support of economic growth and development and prudent decision-making based on reason, sensibility and objectivity; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL demonstrated those attributes in his service as Mayor Pro Tem for at least three annual appointments during his tenure in accordance with the established rotation of those duties among board members; and WHEREAS, in 2006, MICHAEL A. ZADEL received the Prospect High School Distinguished Alumni Award; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL served as an active representative of the Village to the Northwest Municipal Conference Board of Directors and as a member of the NWVIC Transportation Committee from 2019 to 2021; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL, recognizing the important and essential relationship between state and local governments in order to provide for the health, safety and enjoyment of our communities, was a valued member of the Northwest Municipal Conference Legislative Days team, traveling to Springfield to advocate for Mount Prospect and its neighbors to our state legislators; and his effective, collegial and informed representation made lasting impacts on the state/local partnership Mount Prospect enjoys; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL, personifies the Mount Prospect Lions Club slogan "We Serve " dedicating his time as a proud member of this community organization since 2005, serving as chair of the popular Bluesmobile Cruise Nights, co-chair for Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, honored member of the Legacy Committee, instrumental liaison for the development of the Busse Pocket Park in 2019, and, since 2015, is the club's Tailtwister, instilling his wholehearted enthusiasm, robust dedication and good fellowship amongst his fellow Lion members and the entire community; and 2 WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL will be remembered for his leadership, integrity and deep commitment to Village staff, fellow Board members and the residents of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, MICHAEL A. ZADEL made the difficult decision to not seek re-election in 2021; his presence in the community and devotion to civic service will undoubtedly continue for many years to come. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby declare April 7, 2021 as "MICHAEL A. ZADEL DAY" in the Village of Mount Prospect and acknowledge and recognize Michael A. Zadel for his years of heartfelt service to the community and his sincere devotion to the Village.
