ORDINANCE NO. 4730
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE IX OF CHAPTER 4
OF THE VILLAGE CODE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
BE iT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That subparagraph 2 of Section 4.901.A entitled "Creation of
Department; Appointment" of Chapter 4 of the Village Code of Mount Prospect, as
amended, is hereby further amended in its entirety; so that hereafter said Section
4.901.A.2 of Chapter 4 shall be and read as follows:
" 2. The Fire Chief is hereby authorized to appoint, from within or outside of
the Mount Prospect Fire Department, with the advice and consent of the
Village Manager, one (1) Deputy Fire Chief, and four (4) Captain-Shift
Commanders; which positions shall be known as "exempt rank"
positions. If a member of the Fire Department is appointed to an exempt
rank prior to being eligible to retire, he shall be considered as on
furlough from the rank he held at the time of his appointment."
SECTION TVVO: That Section 4.902 entitled "Bureau of Fire Prevention" of Chapter
4 of the Village Code, as amended, is hereby further amended in its entirety; so that
hereafter said Section 4.902 of Chapter 2 shall be and read as follows:
" Sec. 4.902. Fire Prevention Bureau. In addition to directing the regular and
volunteer Fire Department of the Village, the Fire Chief shall serve
ex-officio as the Chief of the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Fire Department.
The Fire Prevention Bureau shall consist of civilian members, as well as such
sworn Fire Department personnel as may be appointed by the Fire Chief for the
purpose of administering and enforcing the regulations of the Village Code
relating to building, fire prevention, fire safety and public education relative to
fire safety."
SECTION THREE: That Section 4.904 entitled "Deputy Fire Chiefs; Duties" of
Chapter 4 of the Village Code, as amended, is hereby further amended by referring
the Deputy Fire Chief in the singular, rather than plural; so that hereafter said Section
4.904 shall be and read as follows:
" Sec. 4.904. Duties. The Deputy Fire Chief shall be second only in rank to the
Fire Chief, and he shall have such duties as may be assigned by
the Fire Chief."
SECTION FOUR: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after
its passage, approval and publication in pamphlet form in the manner provided by law.
