Change in order of Agenda

Felicien Sirois. At Dorothy's request he told the commission of his background and family.
OLD BUSINESS
Omcial Visit to Sevres - Irvana presented the schedule for the visit received from Rolande
Sarinelli. The official visit will be from arrival on Monday morning, October I, through Friday
morning, October 5. We have been given the option of an extended visit to St. Malo, Mont St.
Michel, and the Normandy coast with departure from Paris on Monday, October 12. This tripwould
be at our own expense in the amount of 150 euros. Commission members will be asked fOl" a firm
decision on the trip and the extension at the April meeting.
Hoffman Estates Event - Rachel reported that 150 people attended and that ten students, the
Deputy Mayor and other officials from Angouleme were there. Since this was a larger event than in
the past, there were more tables in the main room and the wine table and silent auction were in
separate areas with the main course served in the cafeteria.
2007 Sister Cities Activities
· Potluck Dinner - April 19 - Judy and Rachel reported that plans for this event have been
made. Mike Karsen will present a talk on his personal experiences in Sevres and show
slides. In addition, some PHS students will talk about their visit which is at the end of this
month. John Korn will solicit items and conduct the rame, and Gary will supervise the wine
table. FeUden will make up a "trivial pursuit" contest for each table, and there will be a
French sing-a-Iong led by Patti Richard. Since Chef Charles is unable to prepare food for us,
commission members are asked to contribute a large or double recipe entree. In addition, it
was decided to purchase chicken from Jewel Food Store. Irvana will recognize Lil's great
contributions with a gift at the potluck.
· French Film Festival. July 12 - Mary Ann reported that this event has evolved into a
family program by the Mount Prospect Public Library assisted by the director of Language
. Stars, Susan Cole. Registration is required (150 person limit) and children will have an
opportunity to engage in a variety of activities including singing, craft-making, and watching
a short video of a French story to expose them to French culture and learn something about
Sister Cities and Sevres. Capannari Ice Cream store will have a new flavor created in honor
of Sevres which will be served.
· Wine Tasting at Vino 100 - Maura Reschke reported that the owner is looking forward to
this event but that it cannot be scheduled until the new building is finished.
· Jr. mgh Pen Pal program. Maura Reschke reported that she is waiting for a response
from Sevres to the inquiry about starting this program.
· PHSfConservatoire music collaboration - in the absence of Skip and Janice, Dorothy
reported that they received a reply from Christopher Beckett in which he said that he would
confer with Thomas Frankfurter about this project.
· PHSlInternational School Exchange - Dorothy reported that the PHS students are
leaving March 22 and that the Sevres students will be here on April 10.
· July 4th parade - Gary will make arrangements for the Public Works truck through Maura
E. and see that the flyer is updated and printed in twice the quantity as last year. It was
suggested that the July 12 event could be advertised on the flyer.
· Thanksgiving in October - Mary Ann contacted Avalon Banquets and found out that they
increased their price to $20.70/person. John Korn moved that we not have the annual
banquet. Cindy Kiel seconded the motion. Mer much discussion about dwindling
attendance, small profit margin, and the visit to Sevres in October, the motion passed. The
banquet is canceled.
· Winter Festival - December 1 - Cindy will handle this event again.
NEW BUSINESS
Commission member resignation/new appointment - see above
Illinois State Convention - April 20-21
Dorothy, Judy and Mal'k Thorne will attend the convention in Belleville. Dorothy inquired if the
Village will pay for the registration fees as in the past, and Irvana responded that she should
submit a request to Maura E. The funds will be taken from the Sister Cities budget.
Rotary French Promotion
Rotary International is focusing on France for its Group Study Exchange this year and is looking for
qualified candidates to travel to France for 4 weeks in the fall. Anyone applying must be a non-
Rotarian, under 40 years of age, a businessman, and able to speak the language. The commission
would like Felicien Sirois to consider this oppmtunity to be sponsored from the Northeastern Illinois
region.
Representation at Downtown Block Party and New Residents Open House
Members expressed that being present at these events would be beneficial. Felicien volunteered to
represent the Commission at these two events in late July and late April to promote Sister Cities to
residents.
Meeting Minutes
Judy Thorne asked if it would be possible for Maura to send out a draft of the minutes by email
soon after each meeting so that corrections can be made and members can be reminded of their
assigned duties. This would be followed by official printed minutes in the mailing before the next
meeting. Irvana and Dorothy will discuss this with Maura.
Meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m. on a motion by John Sibrava.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Thorne, Secretary pro tem
