With the adoption of the Village's Parental Responsibility
Ordinance and the subsequent Village Board Budget Hearings,
the administration was requested to keep the Board
informed as to the workings of this Ordinance and the
staff's continuing crime prevention activities.
Police Department statistics demonstrate that criminal
damage to property for the first eight months of this
year is reduced some 5% over a similar period last year.
Our Parental Responsibility Ordinance is directly related
to approximately $3,700 in restitution this calendar year.
Attached is a memorandum from Chief Pavlock together
with a booklet prepared by the Crime Prevention Bureau.
These materials adequately demonstrate our continuing
efforts to curb criminal damage incidents and seek restitu-
tion from offenders. Chief Pavlock and members of his
staff will be available at the meeting to discuss these
reports in detail and answer any questions you might have.
VI, CREATIVE LOSS PREVENTION
At the last Village Board meeting, Trustee'Wattenberg
requested that this matter be added to the Committee of
the Whole Agenda. The Village is self-insured for our
health and life insurance as well as our general liability
and property. The Village has an internal Safety
Committee made up of the Department Directors who meet
regularly once a month to review all accidents. Our
health insurance administrator, Gallagher --Bassett, reviews
all health claims. Additionally, as the administrator
for our general liability coverage, Gallagher -Bassett
promulgates certain rules and procedures common in the
industry to assist us in loss prevention.
