MINUTES
COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION
Community Center, Village Hall
Thursday, December 14,2006
The Community Relations Commission (eRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday,
December 14, 2006, at the Mount Prospect Village Hall located at 50 South Emerson Street,
Mount Prospect, Illinois.
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Tolbert called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL
Present:
Chairman Tolbert
Commissioner Fuller
Commissioner Hernandez
Commissioner Parikh
Absent:
Commissioner Muench
Also in attendance:
Richard Eddington, Chief of Police
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Parikh and seconded by Commissioner Hernandez to
approve the minutes of November 9, 2006. The minutes were unanimously approved by a
voice vote.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
Suburban Mosaic Book Program
Chairman Tolbert advised that the selection process was underway for next year's book and he
will make a concerted effort to attend the next Suburban Mosaic Book meeting.
"Make A Difference Day" Update
Commissioner Hernandez provided an update. Four or five instruments have been collected.
After the holidays, she will contact the other schools that participated in the program and make
a decision on how to distribute the instruments.
V. New Business
Martin Luther King Dinner
Chairman Tolbert suggested that the Martin Luther King Dinner might take the place of the
January meeting. A motion was made by Commissioner Parikh and seconded by
Commissioner Fuller to implement the suggestion. The motion was approved by a unanimous
vote. Specific information on the location and guest list for the Martin Luther King Dinner will be
obtained and provided to the Commissioners as soon as possible.
Mission of the Community Relations Committee
A wide-ranging discussion of the mission of the Community Relations Commission ensued.
Commissioner Fuller will contact the Illinois Commission on Diversity to see what options they
would suggest for a local government. Commissioner Hernandez recommended research into
an ethnic pride writing event that would allow individuals to express pride in their ethnic

background. Commissioner Hernandez said that including high school participation would be
critical to this being a success. The Chairman directed staff to contact surrounding
municipalities to determine the course of action that has been undertaken by their community
relations commission. Staff will undertake that as quickly as possible so that the information will
be available for the February 8th meeting, where a brainstorming session will occur to help
establish the goals and objectives for 2007.
Election of Vice Chairperson
By a secret ballot Commission Parikh was elected Vice Chairperson of the Community
Relations Commission.
VI. Correspondence
There was no correspondence.
VII. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Parikh and
seconded by Commissioner Fuller. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.
