RESOLUTION NO. 8-74
A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE 1976 BI-CENTENNIAL
CELEBRATION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
BY THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect look
forward to active participation with other municipalities, governmental agencies,
and citizens across the land in the forthcoming celebration of the Bi-Centennial
of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the coordination of the best efforts of all of the citizens of the Village
of Mount Prospect is necessary to accurately reflect the real interest Mount Pros-
pect has in our country; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Trustees deem it to be in the best interests of
the Village of Mount Prospect that a citizens' commission be formed for the purpose
of establishing a plan and necessary steps to implement said plan for the celebration
of the 1976 Bi-Centennial;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That there is hereby established a citizens' commission which shall
be known as liTHE MOUNT PROSPECT BI-CENTENNIAL COMMISSION" for the pur-
pose of adequately determining and establishing a plan along with the necessary
steps to implement and fulfill such plan for the celebration of the Bi-Centennial of
the founding of the United States of America; and to make its findings and recom-
mendations to the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect in
the manner prescribed hereinbelow.
SECTION TWO: That the voting membership of the 1976 Bi-Centennial Celebration
Commission shall be composed of ten (10) residents of the Village of Mount Prospect.
A. That the Mayor and Village Manager shall serve ex-officio as
members of this Commission.
B. That the appointment of the chairman and the remaining seven (7)
members of this Commission shall be made by the Mayor with the
advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, and in the determina-
tion of such appointments, consideration shall be given to the ap-
pointee's geographic location of residence within the Village of
Mount Prospect so that the entire Village shall be represented
on said Commission. The term of office for appointees to this
Commission shall last until Midnight, December 31, 1976.
SECTION THREE: That regular meetings of the 1976 Bi-Centennital Celebration
Commission shall take place at least quarterly or more often as may be deemed
necessary by the members of the Commission. Such meetings may be called by
the presiding chairman of the Commission or any two (2) other members of the
Commission acting in concert. Notice to all other members of the Commission
of such meeting shall be in writing and shall be given at least twenty-four (24)
hours prior to the time of the meeting.
A. Minutes of all meetings of the Commission shall be kept in an
orderly fashion.
B. Said Commission shall make a report on its progress and
findings, and shall send same to the Mayor and Board of
Trustees, within thirty (30) days after its quarterly meeting.
SECTION FOUR: That the 1976 Bi-Centennial Celebration Commission of the Vil-
lage of Mount Prospect shall be operative from and after the date hereof, and,
since the purposes for which its intention shall have been achieved, through
Midnight, December 31, 1976.
SECTION FIVE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
