COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION
Community Center, Village Hall
Thursday, November 9, 2006
The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday,
November 9, 2006, at Mount Prospect Village Hall located at 50 South Emerson Street, Mount
Prospect, Illinois
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Tolbert called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
II. ROLL CALL
Present:
Chairman Tolbert
Commissioner Muench
Commissioner Parikh
Absent:
Commissioner Hernandez
Commissioner Fuller
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Parikh and seconded by Commissioner Muench to approve the
minutes of the October 1 ih meeting. The minutes were unanimously approved by a voice vote.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
Suburban Mosaic Book Program
Chairman Tolbert indicated he spoke with Mr. Brennan regarding the book program. This will be the
third year of the program and books will be selected in the spring of 2007.
"Make a Difference Day" Update
Lions Club and Baird & Warner Realty will continue the program to collect musical instruments for
children. Chairman Tolbert reviewed the success of the program in 2005 during which time 26
instruments were collected and distributed. It is anticipated the program will continue next year.
Forum on Race & Ethnic Diversity
Chairman Tolbert solicited comments from the commission regarding the event. Commissioner
Parikh recommended revisiting the issue to make a collective recommendation based on the input of
all the commissioners. Chairman Tolbert has maintained the names and mailing addresses of
previous attendees. At the last gathering, a total of sixty people attended. Commissioner Parikh
indicated a need to review where the program is now and what can be done in the future.
Commissioner Muench was in agreement to revisit the issue. Should the event be held in the future,
Commissioner Muench thought it appropriate to invite Mayor Wilks, Mr. Brennan and those previously
involved as well as inviting the community. Commissioner Muench indicated we have a great
community as a resource that can become involved and act as an excellent tool for the program.
Commissioner Muench wants people to become self-aware of possible prejudices they might have.
Commissioner Parikh indicated the importance of showing there are many different perspectives to
look at issues and the need for people to be aware of how an individual might have a different
perspective at any given time. Chairman Tolbert advised he would contact the Mayor. Chairman
Tolbert also indicated that this issue will be placed on the next scheduled commission meeting in
December.

V. NEW BUSINESS
Village Reception
Chairman Tolbert reminded the commission of the holiday reception scheduled for November 28th.
Vice Chairperson Election
To be placed on the agenda for the next commission meeting the commission will elect a vice
chairperson. This is in response to the direction of Mayor Wilks that all Village commissions have a
vice chairperson.
VI. CORRESPONDENCE
No correspondence received.
VII. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 7:33 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Muench and
seconded by Commissioner Parikh. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.
