PROCLAMATION
"NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH"
September 2020
WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month, occurring annually in September since 9/11,
creates an ideal opportunity for every resident of Mount Prospect, Illinois, to join citizens
across the United States in preparing their homes, businesses, and communities for
emergencies such as natural disasters, public health hazards, and potential terrorist
attacks; and
WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced the 2020 National
Preparedness Month theme of "Disasters Don't Wait. Make Your Plan Today"; and
WHEREAS, planning now, before a disaster, is the best way to improve community
recovery from disasters; and
WHEREAS, when individuals take responsibility for preparing their families and their
communities, the chance of survival and return to normalcy following a disaster is greatly
increased; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect services Village Information Centers (Green
Boxes) to provide residents and businesses with the most up to date and relevant
emergency preparedness information; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect volunteer groups, Citizen Emergency
Response Team (CERT) and Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), distribute public education
materials and host educational events in order to train citizens to be prepared in the
event of a disaster.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do
hereby proclaim September 2020 as
"NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS MONTH"
and, on behalf of the Village of Mount Prospect, I encourage all business and residents
of Mount Prospect to develop their own emergency preparedness plan and work together
toward creating a stronger, more resilient community.
