EDWARD M. CAVELLO MINUTES SAVE LIVES
FIRE CHIEF COFFEE WITH COUNCIL PREVENT FIRES
TRUSTEES' ROOM, VILLAGE HALL
MARCH 10, 1990
Present at Coffee With Council were: Mayor Gerald "Skip" Farley, Trustees Ralph Arthur, Mark
Busse, Tim Corcoran, Leo Floras, Village Manager John Fulton Dixon, Fire Chief Edward M. Cavello,
and Deputy Fire Chief Del Ulreich.
Mr. prank -Sm-iffi expressed his concern about the McDonald Creek area being left out of the formal flood
study. Mayor Farley asked Mr. Smith if the area had been subject to flooding since 1987. Mr. Smith's
response was "no". Mr. Dixon informed Mr. Smith that as many blockages were being cleared as
possible. It is our belief that clearing these blockages will alleviate many of the water back up
problems.
MrDill ltgra of 209 Neil questioned how the Village Board works with the Park District to
identify park property. He was concerned that the, Harvest Heights area does not have adequate
access to the park in the Kensington Center. Mr. Walters was informed that park districts were
governed by their own boards. Trustee Corcoran explained how he worked with the homeowner group
prior to being elected to the Village Board. The developer donated three lots to be used as parks. The
homeowners group worked on the project for three years and over that time, it lost steam and was never
completed. Mr. Dixon identified an access point in the area of Cummins -Allison, that led to the park.
Nancy Cox of 1100 Heritage Drive protested the mailbox ordinance as being too restrictive. Her
mailbox is supported by two posts. The ordinance requires quires a single post. It was explained to Mrs. Cox
that the intent was to eliminate the monuments that have been erected by some homeowners. It was
further explained that these monuments become a substantial hazard to vehicles and snowplows.
Jim Czeridi,richowicz appeared before
Qwi 2,, of 1105 Wedgewood, phone number 255-7478 Mr. Czerichowicz
members of the Board to discuss a flooding problem in his subdivision. He identifies the problem as
being a water back-up at the intersection of Wedgewood and Meadow Lane. He has video taped the
problem. According to Mr. Czerichowicz the cause of the problem goes back to the time that
Wedgewood was not a through street, it ended at Meadow. Some time ago, the property owner at that
location laid culvert pipe and covered it with rock and extended Wedgewood past Meadow. When the
Village took the area over, we paved over the make -shift road, making it's status more permanent. Mr.
Czerichowicz claims the culvert is undersized and does not allow for proper drainage. Mr. Czerichowicz
was told he would be contacted by Public Works personnel.
Mx. Havrnes of 305 s. William informed the Board that Mr. Chartiere, the cement contractor was now in
partnership with a Mr. Ron Rold of Des Plaines. Mr. Haymes as of yet, did not receive financial
satisfaction for the poor workmanship of Mr. Chartiere.
