Previous discussion from members of the Pension Board resulted in
a request for a legal opinion as to whether a sworn member of the
Fire Department could, if a position was available, be
transferred into the Code Enforcement Department. It was noted
that there is an opening for an Electrical Inspector and Ron
Olsen is a licensed electrician. The legal opinion, as submitted
by James Stucko, Pedersen & Houpt, stated that a firefighter
could not be transferred, since the original position for which
the person was hired was as a sworn member of the Fire Department
and the Code Enforcement Department does not have that
requirement.
There was concerne expressed by several members of the Pension
Fund Board as to whether this injury was actually caused by duty
related duties, since there was an injury report filed some years
ago for an injury incurred during a skiing accident.
Don Barra, seconded by Del Ulreich, moved to grant a duty related
(65%) disability pension to Ron Olsen, based on the legal opinion
rendered stating that a firefighter could not be transferred
into the Code Enforcement Department.
Upon roll call: Ayes: Fields, Jesse, Ulreich, Werderitch
Nays: Barra
Abstain: Olsen
Motion carried.
The calculations for disability benefits to be received by Ron
Olsen are as follows:
Base Pay $33,182.00
Incentive Pay 1,100.00
Longevity (December 86) 500.00
$34,782.00
$34,782.00 @ 65% = $22,608.30 annual
$ 1,884.03 per month
Ron Olsen left the Board and the members of the Board expressed
appreciation for the years of service as a member of the Firemens
Pension Board.
It was noted that an election must be held to fill the vacancy on
the Board created with the retirement of Ron Olsen. The

Secretary will request nominations and an election will be
scheduled from within the ranks of'sworn personnel.
The other item on the agenda, depending on the previous action,
is to consider the application for membership into the fund of
Andy Brousseau, to replace Ron Olsen.
The medical report for Andy Brousseau was presented indicating
that all areas of the examination were acceptable.
Carol Fields, seconded by Randy Werderitch, moved to grant the
request for membership in the Mount Prospect Firemens' Pension
Fund received by Andy Brousseau.
Upon roll call: Ayes: Barra, Fields, Jesse, Ulreich, Werderitch
Nays: None
Motion carried.
It was suggested that due to changes in personnel over the years
and that an injury could take time to manifest itself, that any
injury reported by a sworn member of the Fire Department, either
on or off duty, be forwarded to the Secretary of the Board to be
included in the respective file. This information could be
pertinent in the future when requests are made for disability
pensions.
ADJOURNMENT
Carol Fields, seconded by Del Ulreich, moved to adjourn the
meeting.
Upon roll call: Ayes: Unanimous
Motion carried.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 A.M.
