MOUNT PROSPECT CABLE COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 20, 1984
I. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:41 p.m. by Chairman
John Coleman. Present at the meeting were Michaele Skowron,
Mary Wajer, Chuck Bennett, and Karen Giet, Cable Television
Coordinator for the Village. John Ruckstaetter was absent.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS
Northwest Municipal Conference Meetin
John Coleman reviewed the actions of the NWMC to the requests by
Cablenet for rate relief and associated actions. The NWMC voted to
lift the rate freeze thus allowing Cablenet to set its rates in
accordance with the free market conditions under which it must do
business. The NWMC also recommended that Cablenet be required to
maintain and operate a 120 channel system, defer activation of the
two-way communication system, allow for a less sophicated converter
for those subscribers taking basic service only, and to allow for
an increase in the amount Cablenet charges for the rental of a
second converter.
Active Membership Search
John Coleman reported that he spoke with Mayor Krause concerning
the absence of John Ruckstaetter. The Mayor will look into finding a
replacement so that the Council has an active membership.
Chamber of Commerce
John Coleman reported that the Chamber of Commerce will be attending
the October 18th meeting to propose their request for a Mount Prospect
Cable Television grant. It was suggested that Karen Giet speak to
the Chamber and remind them of the deadlines for submission of grant
applications.
Inside Mount Prospect
Inside Mount Prospect will be taped October 11 from 6-10 p.m.
Mary Wajer suggested one of the topics might be the Historial Society's
showing of old quilts.
Karen and John will meet to discuss her role with this series.
Christmas Trees
Karen Giet reported that she has begun pre -production planning for a
program to be taped in November on how to select a Christmas tree. She
needs a certified crew for this project.
Policy Statements
Michaele Skowron recommended that those portions of the previous
meetings minutes described as "criteria" be lifted from the
minutes and be retitled, "Policy." This section should then be
added to the policy section of the Mount Prospect Cable Commission
notebook.
IV. OLD BUSINESS
Partv In The Park
Chuck Bennett reported that the booth at Party In The Park was
quite successful. Several people stopped and were interested in
The MPCC.
Brouchures
John Coleman reported that the brouchures are still in progress.
Meet the Mayor
John Coleman reported that "Meet the Mayor" is in the can and he is
waiting to hear from Calbenet as to an air date.
C.A.P.A.
John Coleman highlighted the first anniversary party of C.A.P.A.
C.A.P.A. is to produce 3 PSAs for the Village of Mount Prospect in
return for the grant that they received. Karen Giet will work with
them in providing the types of information the Village would want
in the PSA.
Jeff Slowik Telethon
The MPCC reviewed the progress on the telethon for local 14 year old
Jeff Slowick who is suffering from a rare form of leukemia.
1. Date and Place: December 1, 1984, 7-11 p.m. at Hersey High School.
2. Telethon is to be broadcast on Channel 21 with the cooperation of
volunteers, business groups, MPCC, & Cablenet.
3. Goal of telethon is to raise money to defrey cost of the medical
bills for the Slowick family.
4. Telethon is to consist of two technical divisions; pre-recorded
inserts and live coverage.
5. Site survey to be conducted by John Coleman and Cablenet on
Friday, November 31.

8. IDEAS FOR PROGRAM BODY
- WTTW - footage about leukemia
- Seattle Hospital - either VTR or slides
- Interview with family
- Allstate may donate phone lines and people
- Centel to be contacted for phone lines
- Basketball game 2 time announcement and collection
- Signed balls from major Chicago sports to be given for
largest donation: ie: for child under ten, for boy, for girl,
for business, for private party etc. A contest in which
these balls are the prizes.

9. Hosts
Local radio show personalities (Bob Collins)
Son of Svengoli, BOZO, Pudgy, Dave Kingman, Oprah Winfrey,
local talents.
John Coleman wants to executive produce this program and
wants to keep as many volunteers as possible coordinating the
various components.
Karen Giet warned not to let the program ideas and goals
expand beyond what is reasonably possible to produce in the
most professional manner.
