Commission held June 5, 1989.
Motion Passed Unanimously
IV NEW BUSINESS
A.) A request from Mrs. Jill Kusek, 2008 Ivy Lane, for
a THREE WAY STOP at the intersection of Ivy Lane and
Kiowa Lane was reviewed. Both streets are designat-
ed local with low traffic volumes. No sight
obstructions and no reported accidents in the last
five years. Mrs. Kusek stated vehicles use Ivy Lane
as a short cut to avoid the traffic signals at
Euclid Avenue and River Road in excess of the posted
25 MPH speed limit.
Commissioner Coy stated, based on the results of the
traffic study, the criteria as outlined in the
Illinois Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices,
was not met to warrant a multi -way stop. The manual
also states, stop sign should not be used for speed
control.
Dave Nicholson stated, the Police Dept. provided
selective enforcement on Ivy Lane over a 10 day
period in late August and that no speed violations
were observed.
Mr. Ken Panek, 1912 Ivy Lane, suggested restricting,
the turning movements onto Ivy Lane during certain
hours at both ends Ivy Lane.
Chairman Beening, requested the residents to solicit
the opinion of the 38 homeowners that would be
effected by the proposed turning restriction and
return to the Commission with a petition reflecting
the majorities opinion.
Commissioner Coy, also requested the engineering
staff contact the Illinois Dept. of Transportation
to check the timing of the traffic signals at River
Road and Euclid Avenue.
B.) A request from the Kensington Business Association
for a FOUR-WAY STOP at the intersection of Business
Center Drive and Feehanville Drive/Lakeview Court
was reviewed. Business Center Drive and Lakeview
Court are controlled by stop signs at Feehanville
Drive. There have been four reported accidents
since 1987. In reviewing the records it was noted
that there have been three reported accidents where
Business Center Drive and Feehanville Drive
intersect to the west, during the same time period.
Although the Safety Commission believes the four way
stop would benefit the Industrial Park, Commissioner
Coy, seconded by Commissioner Mitchell, moved to
table this request to its next meeting so staff can
provide additional information on both
intersections.
Motion Passed Unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT
Having no further business the Meeting was adjourned
at 9:30 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Drew G. Johanson
