Minutes
February 16, 1978
A special meeting of the Mount Prospect Safety Commission was
held in the Village Hall on February 16, 1978. The meeting
was called to order by Ben Scola, Chairman, at 7:45 P.M.
Members present were: Art Coy, Harold Abramowski, Officer
Tom Daley, Mt. Prospect Police Department, and Mike Pekala,
Village Traffic Engineer (partial).
1. Ben Scola presented a letter from Paddock Publications
requesting notification of our meeting schedule for 1978.
In Ben's reply, he reiterated that the information requested
is available at the Village Clerk's office during regular
business hours.
II. The Safety Commission sponsored School Safety Program
Seminar was discussed. The Commission agreed upon the
date as April 29, 1978, and the registration fee as $10.
Tom Daley presented a list of schools served by Officer
Friendly. This list will be used prior to the seminar
to make personal follow-up contacts with the school
principals and safety coordinators.
Ben Scola presented the Fire Department's seminar outline
for review by the Commission and participants in the
seminar (copy attached). The Fire Department presentation
is anticipated to last l hour 40 minutes.
Ben Scola also presented the National Safety Council seminar
outline for review (copy attached). The National Safety
Council presentation is anticipated to last 1 hour.
Outlines from the Police Department and the Traffic Engineer-
ing Department should be available for review by the
March 6 meeting.
A suggested itinerary for the day was submitted by Chief
Pairitz for consideration by the Commission and seminar
participants (copy attached). This will be discussed in
detail at the March 6 meeting.
Mr. Burr Whitlock, Mt. Prospect Fire Prevention Bureau,
suggested including Boy and Girl Scout leaders on the
invitation list since so much of their -activity is safety
oriented. He included a mailing list. The Safety Commission
agreed with Mr. Whitlock and will take the necessary steps
to invite this group.

Harold Abramowski presented a suggested seminar announce-
ment sheet with return reservation form. Commission members
approved the form, pending final determination of who will
collect advance registration fees. Ben Scola will follow-up
with the Village Finance Department and Holmes Junior -High
PTO for final determination.
Members of the Commission will attempt to visit all Public
and Parochial School PTO meetings between now and April 29
to briefly describe the seminar and urge at least one
representative to attend. Harold Abramowski will research
meeting times, dates and places for these organizations, for
the following. Assignments are:
