ORDINANCE NO. 2283
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2251 AIV]ENDING TBE
FIRE PREVENrION CODE
WHEREAS, the Public Health and Safety Corrmittee of the Board of
Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect on December 9, 1970,
revie\lTed the Fire Prevention Code requirements for exit doors of
public buildings, and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Mount Prospect have determined that the revamping of this section
in a manner consistent with the National Fire Prevention Code is
in the best interests of the Village of Mount Prospect;
NOW, THEREFDRE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENI' AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT. COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: '!'hat Section 24.403 of Article IV of Chapter 24 of
the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as amended, be and
the same is hereby further amended so that paragraph A thereof
shall speak in terms of occupancy by persons rather than in terms
of area with respect to rooms of public buildings and delete the
sub-paragraphs 1 through 3 of the said paragraph A, since these
items are covered in the National Fire Codes; so that the said
Section 24.403 in its entirety shall hereafter be and read as
follows:
"Section 24.403. Entrance and Exit Doors.
A. E.'very room and every building open to the public, i. e.
every place to which the general public has a right to
resort, which room or building has a capacity of twenty
(20) persons or more, shall have all entrance and exit
doors hung to swing in the direction of exit travel,
unless such doors EU~e equipped with an emergency release
bracket that vvi1l disengage the door operator and permit
the door to swing outward under total pressure Of..'Dot
rrore than fifteen (15) pounds. Unless so equipped, doors
swinging inward only shall not be accepted ana are hereby
declared unlawful.
B. A presently existing door which does not conform to the
provisions of this Section at the date of passage of this
ordinance shall be eliminated or made to conform herewith
in accordance vlith the fOllowing schedule:
1. A room or building having a capacity of twenty (20)
persons but not exceeding fifty (50) persons shall
conform with the provisions of this Section within
six (6) months of the date of passage of this ordinance.
2. A room or building having a capacity of more than
fifty (50) persons but not exceeding two hundred
(200) persons shall conform with the provisions
herein within twelve (12) months of the date of
passage of this ordinance.
3. A room or building having a capacity of more than
two hundred (200) persons shall conform with the
provisions herein within eighteen (18) months of
the date of passage of this ordinance."
SECTION rrwO: That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner
provided by law.
