Meeting Minutes
May 6, 2006
ATTENDEES: Della Baldwin, Skip Farley, Jill Friedrichs, Eileen Gattas, Christina
Greco, Martha Helm, Linda Hoefert, Mike Janonis, Paul Seils, Jim Uszler, Teresa Wolf,
Laury Youngquist
Chairman Skip Farley called the meeting to order at 9:03 am. A motion was made by
Eileen Gattas, seconded by Christina Greco, to approve the minutes of the April 1,
meeting. The motion was approved. The Financial Report as of April 30, 2006, was
presented by Mike Janonis and approved.
Skip announced that another new member, Sandi DiCaro, has been appointed to the
Commission to replace Lil Floros.
Fine Arts Festival- 6/24/06 - Teresa Wolf: There are 45 registered artists as of this
date. Details, brochures, and flyers are being finalized. Her committee will be meeting
with Glen Andler to map the locations for the artists. Honor students from the high
schools will be available to assist.
4th of July Parade: Tuesday, 7/4/06, 1:00 -Jill Friedrichs: 31 units have been
registered, which is in line with registrations from previous years. Among the units will
be a patriotic brass band from the Mt. Prospect Bible Church. Of the $18,450 budget
financed by the Village, $8,470 has been spent as of this date.
Do-It-Yourself Sousa - 7131/06 - Martha Helm: Cheryl Lufitz of the Mt. Prospect
Park District is working on the registration form which hopefully will be mailed by the
end of May. Mama EI Metennani will be supplying mailing labels. Laury Youngquist
volunteered to help with the copying of the music; Eileen Gattas will assist with
distribution of the posters to businesses.
Family Bike Ride -1017: Teresa Wolf and Christina Greco will be giving a further
report as the time approaches.
Winter Parade -12/2/06 - Mike Janonis: Work will begin after Labor Day.
House Decorating Event - Week of 12/4/06 - Paul Seils: Discussion was held and a
decision was made to give awards at the Village Board meeting on December 19.
Skip acknowledged a Thank You letter from Lil and Leo Floros. He also reminded the
Commission members of his desire for job descriptions for their event's responsibilities.
The meeting adjourned at 9:32 am.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION

Thursday, May 11,2006
The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday,
May 11, 2006, at the Mount Prospect Village Hall located at 50 South Emerson Street, Mount
Prospect, Illinois.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:14 p.m. by Chairman Tolbert.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Muench and seconded by Commissioner Fuller to
approve the minutes of April 13th. These minutes were unanimously approved by a voice vote.
OLD BUSINESS
Update on "Make A Difference Day"
Chairman Tolbert advised he had provided information regarding the event to the local
newspaper. Chairman Tolbert indicated that there were many in attendance at the event.
Approximately 20 children performed with the donated musical instruments and 40 - 50
attendees were in the audience. Commissioner Fuller advised the band performed very well and
that there were many parents in attendance. Mayor Wilks who was in attendance met with many
of the participants and attendees. Mayor Wilks had an opportunity to speak to those in
attendance about the program and its success. The Commission expressed their appreciation to
the police department for Crime Prevention Officer Roscop' s attendance and the refreshments
which were served. It was noted that the band director indicated most of the children have not
had the opportunity to perform in public and that the event was a good opportunity for them.
The Commission indicated they intended to write a letter of appreciation to Mayor Wilks, Joanne
Fulkerson, the library director and the band director acknowledging their assistance. The police
department will assist in distributing the letter. Commissioner Muench indicated the children
might consider performing at an area nursing home.
Follow-up discussion on Forum on Racism & Ethnic Diversity 2003
The Commission tabled discussion for a future date.

International Education Week
Commissioner Fuller recommended that Commissioner Hernandez be present for discussion.
This item will be placed on the next meeting's agenda.
Fourth of July
Commissioner Parikh will be contacting the Lions Club regarding participation at their 4th of
July festivities. Chairman Tolbert spoke on the Saint Paul Church concert. The church was
interested in the Commission taking part in the activities. Commissioner Parikh will provide
information at the next Commission meeting.
Suburban Mosaic Book
Chairman Tolbert advised the book list was provided at the last Commission meeting. There was
discussion regarding political overtones of one of the books included in the list. Commissioner
Muench felt the author, Illinois Senator Obama, was very well educated, respected and a role
model for children.
Village Grant Application
Chairman Tolbert provided the tentative schedule for the process. The Commission is to review
the schedule and advise of any conflicts. Commissioner Fuller requested information on the
process. Chairman Tolbert provided an overview of the process and the timetable involved.
Last year approximately 15 local organizations applied for grant funding. The Commission
would provide a recommendation to the Village Board. All final documentation would be
· forwarded by Clare Sloan of Community Development to HUD. Chairman Tolbert would
contact Clare Sloan to discuss an alternate date to the September 7th meeting.
Welcome New Residents
Chairman Tolbert and Commissioner Hernandez were in attendance at the Welcome New
Residents reception. The Commission distributed Make A Difference Day materials to
attendees. The event was well attended by many churches, civic organizations and
representatives from Village departments. The next reception will be in October. Chairman
Tolbert indicated the event is a worthwhile activity for attendees.
NEW BUSINESS
Commission Schedule
The Commission reviewed its 2005 calendar. As in 2005, the Commission discussed not
meeting in July. Commissioner Muench moved for the Commission not to meet in July. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Fuller. The motion was approved by a unanimous voice
vote.
Library Fees
Commissioner Muench noted that the Mount Prospect Library currently levies a charge to not for
profit organizations for holding events at the facility. Fees are not charged at the Arlington
Heights, Niles or Des Plaines libraries. The Commission inquired if this was an issue they could
look into. The Commission indicated that this would be a Library Board issue and Commissioner
Muench would be willing to appear before the Board to discuss the issue.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:54 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Fuller and
seconded by Commissioner Muench. The motion was approved by a unanimous vote.
