State Conventions
Rachel Toeppen, Judy Thome and Dorothy Kucera planned to attend the State Convention April
28 and 29 in Springfield. The Commission had reserved a booth at the expo. A motion was made
and passed that the Commission should pay the registration fee for those attending.
French Salons
Judy Thome gave a brief report on the French Salon evening that took place on February 21 at
the Huber Home. Skip Farley made a presentation on French participation in the American
Revolution. Wine and cheese were served and there was a French dessert presentation by Chef
Tual. There was a game with French words and phrases and the group sang "Frere Jaques." 22
people attended, 14 of which were Commission members.
High School Exchange
15 French students from Sevres visited. The Village will provide goodie bags and informational
folders when the mayor and other commission members attend a breakfast with them. Both the
Rotary clubs and the Lions Club donated money for activities while the students are here.
Pot Luck Dinner
Rachel Toeppen is coordinating a pot luck dinner for Thursday, April 26. Melanie Karsen will
translate a video about Sevres to be shown at the event. The hope is that the families involved in
the high school exchange would attend. There will be an informational display about Sister
Cities so attendees can learn more about the Commission and what we do. It was decided that the
event would be Bring your own Wine and the Commission would provide coffee, tea, lemonade
and water. Free will donations would be collected at the door. It was suggested that French bread
be on the tables. Perhaps Jewel could donate. Commission members should have special
nametags. Paul Seils offered to donate the centerpieces. Staffwill take registrations and keep
track of what people are bringing. Chef Charles Tual can't attend, but will provide recipes. Each
Commission member should bring an entree. The max attendance is 96. A raffle will also be held
to collect additional funds.
Brochure
The Commission reviewed a draft of the informational brochure and provided comments. A
motion was made and passed to not spend more that $700 on the printing of the brochure.
Thanksgiving in October
Mary Ann Sibrava reported that the date had been set for the Thanksgiving in October banquet,
Thursday, October 26, 2006. She would be forming a subcommittee. She asked the Commission
to approve a deposit for the banquet hall. The motion was made and passed.
Mayor Wilks reported that she had invited Mayor Kosciusko-Morizet to attend the Sister Cities
International Conference in Washington DC. She also reported that he had been appointed to the
State Legislature.
The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
