PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION Minutes May 1, 1999 In Attendance: Elmer Blasco, Steve Durlacher, Lil Floros, Leo Floros, Jill Friedrichs, Martha Helm, Maura Jandris, Terri Pistone, Laury Youngquist 1. The meeting was called to order by Leo Floros at approximately 9:05 am. Minutes of the April 3 meeting were approved. Chairman Leo Floros welcomed guests from St. Emily Troop #265, a Mother and her son a First Class Boy Scout who is working on his Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge. Chairman Floros also welcomed the new Public Information Officer of Mt. Prospect, Maura Jandris. 2. Lil Floros reported that Dale Draznin had requested to postpone her report on the Welcome to Mt. Prospect event until next month. Leo informed the Commission there were 40 -50 new residents in attendance. 3. Veteran's Memorial Bandshell - Elmer Blasco reported that there were 210 donated stones as of May 1 and that the roof of the bandshell was due to be put in place on Monday, May 3. The structure should be ready by May 31, weather permitting. The Commission is encouraged to assist on Memorial Day with crowd control and handing out programs. 4. Do- It- Yourself Sousa- Leo reported that the applications have been mailed and are being returned for June 27 - the first event in the new bandshell. 5. Fourth of July Parade - Jill Friedrichs reported that letters with applications for official entry into the parade would be sent on Sunday, May 2. There was discussion that followed, regarding a conversation Jill and Maura had had with a representative from Old Navy called The Grand Group who would provide Mt. Prospect with a bike decorating contest and perhaps t- shirts for parade marshalls. The Grand Group would like to have a banner at the reviewing stand which was not approved by the Commission but acknowledgment banners might be included in front of a unit. Jill is to have more discussions with the group. 6. River Trails Labor Day Event - Terri Pistone stated that the budget for their event had been established for this year but suggested a Climbing Wall at a cost of $600. Lil so moved, Jill seconded, and the donation was approved by the Commission. 7. Attempts for Home Town Days will be put into action. The meeting was adjourned at 9:54 am.
