The meeting was called to order by Lil Floros at 9:00 am. The minutes of the April 8, 2000, meeting were
approved.
Welcome to Mt. Prospeet: Those Commission members in attendance reported the event appeared to be
successful with approximately 60 new residents.
Sister City - May 16-19: Lillisted the final details of the event as reported previously. She encouraged
all Commission members to attend the reception to be held on Tuesday, May 16, the banquet on May 17,
and the official signing on Friday, May 19. Martha Helm & Laura Luteri will be in charge of helium red,
white, and blue balloons from Busse Flowers to be used during the ceremonies on May 19.
~It- Yourself Sousa - June 25 at 7:00: Laura Luteri reported that a notice was in the village newsletter
and is on the village webpage. There has been good response to letters sent to the potential players. She
had had the confirmation of attendance from ''Mr. Sousa" and Ralph Wilder. Laura asked for volunteers
to distribute flyers to businesses and to pass out flags and programs at the event.
Fourth of July Parade: Jill Friedrichs presented a proposal from the All-American Drum and Bugle
Corp. to help attract musical groups for our parade. However, the cost would be approximately $5000
over our budget. Because the moneys spent in the past have been under budget, a motion was made by
Linda Hoefert and seconded by Janice Farley for the Commission to approve the expenditure. Jill will be
attending the village board meeting on Tuesday, May 9, for final approval.
River Trails Earth Day: Lil read a letter from Karen Kiester thanking the Commission for a donation of
$600 to be used toward the ''Earth Balloon" (a 20' tall inflated "earth" that people entered to listen to a
presentation about geography) and the "Monkeys and More" show with live monkeys and other animals.
Steve Shapiro reported that approximately 600 families had attended the event.
The next meeting will be June 3. Laura Luteri will bring treats.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:40.
Respectfully submitted,
Martha Helm
