Mount Prospect Special Events Commission
9 September 2000
Cafeteria. Village Hall
Minutes
I. The meeting was called to order at 9:15 by Leo Floros.
Present: Steve Durlacher. Leo Roros, Lil Floros, Jill Friedrichs. Laura Luteri, and Laury
Youngquist
II. The minutes of the 5 August 2000 meeting were approved as distributed.
10. A written financial report was distributed. There is a balance of $4,028.16.
IV. Welcome New Neighbor. A maaling will be prepared by volunteers tom the Senior Center and will
be mailed out this month.
V. Winter Parade. Sounds of the Season is being replaced this year with a Winter Parade. The
parade will take place on Saturday. 9 December 2000 at 5 p.m. The parade route has yet to be
finalized but is intended to run tom the Maple Street Commuter Lot through the residential area
and business area south of the tracks and end somewhere around Prospect and Elmhurst.
Madeline Franklin tom the Chamber is working with the Special Events Commission and wiD work
with the downtown businesses to encourage their participation. Initial responses from the
community have been favorable.
VI. Fourth of July Parade. a working committee has been meeting on a regular basis to work on
improving the parade and making next year's parade better than ever.
VII. Celestial Celebration. Celestial Celebration VIII is scheduled for the fist Sat..-day in February
2001. The theme is "Irs Magic" and the color scheme is black, white and royal purple. TICket price
will remain at $30.
VIII. Shining Stars . The list of awards has been finalized and a maiHng wBI go out later this month to 811
clubs and organizations and past participants. The deadline for nominations is...,. November / S; 2 Cot:
19, Oi01.
IX. Other
A. Steve reported on the Parks Commissions upcoming OctoberFest and the Circus.fund-
raiser. He encouraged us to attend.
S. Holiday Decorating Contest. The initial judging will be divided among the members of the
Commission. Judging wiH take place 6-13 December and wll coincide with the Holiday Parade
nicely. .
X. No other business being before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 9:58 a.m. The
next meeting will be on Saturday, 7 October 2000 at 9 am. in the Trustee Room of the Village
Hall. Paul Seils is scheduled to bring retestunents.
