MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION
Minutes
October 6, 2001
ATTENDEES: Lil Floros, Leo Floros, Della Baldwin, Corky Dunn, Steve Durlacher, Janice
Farley, Jill Friedrichs, Martha Helm, Linda Hoefert, Paul Seils, Terri Schroeder, Laury
Youngquist: EXCUSED: Dale Draznin, Mike Janonis
Lil Floros called the meeting to order at 9:00 am. The minutes of the September 1,2001,
meeting were approved. The Financial Report was presented and approved.
Arts/Crafts. 2002: Laury Youngquist reported that she had met with Madeline Franklin of the
Chamber of Commerce, who had approved having the Arts/Crafts Show in conjunction with 2002
Block Party on Saturday, July 27. The time is to be determined. Letters, including an application
for the juried event, will be sent to local artists, as well the Art Guilds of Arlington Heights, Park
Ridge, and Des Plaines. Corky Dunn offered her assistance with the mailings. The owner of The
Clayground will make contact with artists who have shown their work at their store. Maura
Jandris and the Art Council will be asked for assistance with publicity in the Village Newsletter
and booklet, respectively. Janice Farley, Ken Fritz, Leo Floros will be a part of the committee and
will meet prior to the Special Events meeting in November.
Welcome to Mt. Prosoect: In Dale Draznin' s absence, Leo Floros reported that the event will be
on October 27, rather than the previously announced date.
Christmas Parade - 12/1: Letters will be sent to businesses along Emerson Avenue, asking them
remain open during the parade. Steve Durlacher reported that the cost of the floats might increase.
The date will coordinate with the Teddy Bear Walk, the Park District, and the Historical Society
Housewalk weekend.
2002 Celestial Celebration: -Lil Floros announced that the Celebration title will be "Sail Away",
keeping with the nautical cruise theme. The colors will be navy, white, and gold. The table favors
will be small life preservers and caps with "ss Mt. Prospect". The music will be provided by the
Dave Ivax Orchestra, whose leader will also provide guitar music during dinner. Leo Floros made
a motion, with a second from Paul Seils, to increase the cost to $35 per person.
Shinin2 Star A wards: Leo reported that letters have been sent to community leaders in Mt.
Prospect for nominations and encouraged Commission members to make nominations for an
award. Leo reminded the members that they are 110t eligible nor are elected officials. Terri
Schroeder made a suggestion that a travel agent be contacted for a possible donation of a cruise to
be given away as a door prize.
Lil read a letter of resignation from Commission member Terri Schroeder, who will no longer be a
part of the River Trails Park District past December. Terri stated that she might return to the Park
District after April, but that she would only be on a part time basis. River Trails will be notifying
the Commission as to Terri's replacement.
