MT. PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
November 6, 2004
ATTENDEES: Bob Ancona, Della Baldwin, Dale Draznin, Janice Farley, Leo Floros,
Lil Floros, Jill Friedrichs, Eileen Gattas, Martha Helm, Linda Hoefert, Kathy Janonis, Jim
Uszler, Laury Youngquist
Lil Floros called the meeting to order at 9:10 am. The minutes of the October meeting
and the Financial Report as of October 31, 2004, were approved.
Welcome to Mt. Prospect: Dale Draznin reported that approximately 30 new families
had attended the event at the Village Hall. The consensus of the Commission that it was
a good location. A suggestion was made to send evaluation cards to past attendees for
their opinions to learn if there should be any additions or changes.
Sister Cities Commission Thanksgiving Dinner: Janice Farley reported that even
though it was a lower attendance than last year when the French musicians were in Mt.
Prospect, there were approximately 150 in attendance this year, and it was a good
evening. She also stated that the Community Band had performed a very nice program.
Do- It-Yourself Sousa - 8/1/05: Martha Helm reported that, through some discussions
with the Park District, Ralph Wilder, and Mike Golemo (Mr. Sousa) the event will be
held on Monday, August 1, as an addition to the Community Band concerts held on
several prior Monday nights at the Lions Park Memorial Band Shell. The rehearsal will
be held on Sunday night, July 31, at the Lions Park gymnasium.
Winter Parade - 12/4/04: Jim U szler reported that there have been about 20 units
signed up for the parade, including two bands. The Junior Women's Club ofMt.
Prospect will be setting up luminaria along the parade route.
Art Fair: Leo Floros announced that he will hold an organizational meeting of the
previously selected committee on Saturday, November 13. Included will be Laury
Youngquist, Janice Farley, Jim Uszler, Teresa Wolf, and Leo Floros from the Special
Events Commission.
Celestial Celebration - 2/5/05: Lil reported that the committee is meeting regularly and
she will be sending letters requesting contributions. The gift for the attendees has been
selected. Janice Farley will be handling the ticket sales, and Jill Friedrichs will be
printing the name tags. Leo requested that the Commission members send nominations
for the Shining Star awards.
Toy Dump Trucks: Lil Floros reported that the toy dump trucks from the Celestial
Celebration XI have been purchased by various business owners from the Commission
to sell.
Holiday Decorations Contest: Maps will be distributed to Commission members at the
next meeting for them to scout areas for nicely decorated homes during the week of
December 4-8. Paul Seils will make do the final judging and awards will be presented at
the Village Board meeting on Tuesday, December 14.
The meeting adjourned at 10: 10 am.
The next meeting will be held on December 4,2004, at Village Hall.
