MT. PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
October 2, 2004
ATTENDEES: Della Baldwin, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil FIoros, Martha Helm,
Linda Hoefert, Jim Uszler
Leo Floros called the meeting to order at 9: 10 am. The minutes of the September
meeting and the Financial Report as of September 30, 2004, were approved.
Jim Uszler reported on the September 25 International Festival and announced that the
Chamber of Commerce is hopeful that District 214 Continuing Education & the 4-H
Clubs of Illinois will co-sponsor the event in 2005. He also thanked the Commission
for their donation to be used toward the rental of the sound system.
Family Bike Ride: Leo reported for Bob Ancona that there were 177 registrations for
the event. Jim U szler commented that the route was good and suggested that there be
more guards at the Lincoln Street crossing next year. Leo suggested that the event be
held at the Kensington Business Center and surrounding neighborhood. No decision was
made. More will be made at a later date regarding the location and exact date.
Art Fair: Leo Floros announced that he will hold an organizational meeting of the
previously selected committee on Saturday, November 13. Included will be Laury
Youngquist, Janice Farley, Jim Uszler, and Leo Floros from the Special Events
Commission.
Toy Dump Trucks: Lil Floros reported that the toy dump trucks from the Celestial
Celebration XI have been redone with a new logo and will be ready to put in various
village stores to sell the week of October 4.
Celestial Celebration - 2/5/05: Lil Floros announced the committee had named the
theme of the event to be "Blending the Old with the New... Shining Forth".
Welcome to Mt. Prospect - 10/16/04: Leo reported for Dale Draznin that a mailing had
been sent to new residents for the event which will take place in the new Community
Room at Village Hall. Linda Hoefert will buy $25 gift certificates from Busse Flowers,
Ace Hardware, Mrs. P & Me, and the Chamber of Commerce to be given as door prizes.
Lil reported on the Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Sister Cities Commission to be
held on October 28 at the Avalon Ballroom. Tickets are $30 each. Entertainment will be
provided by the Mt. Prospect Community Band. She encouraged the SEC members to
attend.
Leo reported that the Winter Parade will be held on December 4 thanks to the Arrow
Road & Martran Companies who have agreed to sponsor the event. The first meeting
will be held on October 4 to start the planning.
The meeting adjourned at 9:55 am.
The next meeting will be held on November 6,2004, at Village Hall.
