APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes were approved on a motion by Commissioner Parikh and seconded by Commissioner Fuller.
One change was noted in that GWAYO had their funding level changed as the United Way did not
authorize funds for one of GWAYO's competitors. Consequently, that caused a marginal change in the
CDBG grant funding
UPDATE ON MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
Joanne Fulkerson of Baird & Warner provided an update on Make a Difference Day. The Commission
voted to extend its commitment to this program. It is anticipated, when completed, 24 or 25 instruments
will have been collected for distribution to the school districts. Several options were discussed for next
year's program. The Chairman stated that he will contact Marilyn Genther from the library to determine if
the library would host a concert. Additionally, the Chairman mentioned that Her Honor Mayor Irvana
Wilks supports the concert idea. However, further discussion will be delayed until Commissioner
Hernandez is available. Joanne Fulkerson from Baird & Warner wanted not only to continue to support
the program, but to be kept updated on the concert dates. Additionally, she requested that significant
press coverage be undertaken, as many of the donors were anonymous and that would be the only way
they could be notified. In addition to the standard press release, there was a request that MPTV be
contacted to provide coverage. Joan Fulkerson was extremely pleased with the working relationship that
had been developed with the Lions Club and wanted it to continue in next year's program. She was
extremely complimentary of Fred Steinmiller's efforts in the program.
There was a motion from Commissioner Parikh and seconded by Commissioner Fuller that Her Honor
compose a letter commending Baird & Warner and the Mount Prospect Lions Club for their efforts in
instrument collection for Make a Difference Day.
