II. TRAFFIC WORKSHOP WITH SAFETY COMMISSION
In 2005, the Engineering Staff presented three new traffic programs to the Village Board of Trustees:
the Residential Intersection Traffic Control Program, the Residential Speed Limit Program, and the
Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program. Per the direction of the Village Board of Trustees at those
meetings, the Engineering Staff has moved forward with the first two programs using this new
neighborhood strategy. The January 23rd Committee of the Whole Meeting, which has been
scheduled to be a joint workshop with the Village Board ofTrustees and Safety Commission, will allow
the Engineering Staff to present the results of the first neighborhood study and proposed next steps.
A majority of the evening will be dedicated to discussion of the first neighborhood study. The
neighborhood chosen as the first study borders Prospect High School. The services of KLOA Inc., a
traffic engineering consultant, were retained by the Village to review the 61 intersections for proper
traffic control using today's engineering standards. A representative from KLOA Inc. will be in
attendance to facilitate discussion. In addition, the Engineering Staff has reviewed the speed limits
along the 12.8 miles of streets in the neighborhood and is prepared to present the study. Attached for
your consideration are reports for the intersection traffic control and speed limit programs, a
memorandum outlining proposed next steps for the neighborhood, and a proposal for additional
neighborhood studies in 2006.
Time will also be set aside during the evening to discuss a petition received from residents along See-
Gwun Avenue to address traffic concerns. This issue will be linked to a request from the Engineering
Staff to resume traffic control studies at individual intersections. Information on both these issues is
also attached for your consideration.
With each issue that will be discussed during the evening, an opportunity will be provided for
questions and discussion. Feedback from both the Village Board of Trustees and Safety Commission
will be vital as the Engineering Staff continues to manage these important issues.
The meeting will not be televised.
