HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/29/2005 SCC minutes MOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes September 29, 2005 Members Present: Tokiko Blaine Carole Bloomquist Lil Floros Melanie Karsen Cindy Kiel John Kom Dorothy Kucera Paul Seils Mary Ann Sibrava Judy Thome Rachel Toeppen lrvana Wilks Members Absent: Janice Farley Skip Farley John Sibrava Adelaide Thulin Staff Liaison: Maura EI Metennani The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m. Ham!in!! of Patchworkers Quilt The Commission voted to keep the Quilt that was a gift from the Patchworkers of Sevres, presented during the official visit in March 2005, on display at the Mount Prospect Public Library indefinitely. It was moved by Melanie Karsen and seconded by Lil Floros. The motion passed unanimously. Sister Cities International Coalition for Citizen Diplomacy On Oct. 22, the Tinley Park Sister Cities organization is holding a forum on citizen diplomacy. Sister Cities InternationalSflh Anniversary Celebration Stories were submitted for the Sister Cities International 50th Anniversary Celebration publication. Thanks!!ivin!! in October Banouet At the time of the meeting, there were 60 people registered for the banquet. Staff will send press release. The program will include the Community Band. It was hoped that a representative from Prospect High School would be there to report on their exchange that took place in the spring. The committee will meet at the Avalon around 2:30 to decorate. The Quinns will bring greetings from Sevres. There was discussion about showing the Sevres video, but it was decided against in the interest of time. The Mayor will give a welcome and a representative from St. Emily's will give the invocation. Prosnect Hi!!h School Exchan!!e The question was raised about the Commission contributing funds for activities while students from Sevres are here on the exchange. There was some discussion about approaching service clubs for assistance. There were concerns about setting a precedent. John Korn and Paul Seils were authorized to pursue this matter with the Lions Club. This subject was tabled for the next meeting, at which time there would be a better idea of how much revenue would be received from the banquet. Assi!!nments - 2006 In order to share the workload - the following tasks were assigned for 2006: 4th of July Parade - Melanie and Mike Karsen Thanksgiving Banquet - Mary Ann Sibrava Sister Cities of Illinois coordinator - Rachel Toeppen Winter Parade - Cindy Kiel Ouinns'Visit Terry and Renee Quinn are scheduled to visit from Sevres in October to coincide with the Thanksgiving in October Banquet. A welcome reception will be held for the Quinns. It will take place at Village Hall on the Tuesday they arrive at 1 :30 p.rn. The Commission members would be invited. Bud!!et A budget report was distributed and reviewed by the Commission. Meeting adjourned at 6:40.
