ORDINANCE NO. 2838
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES TO BE FOLLOWED
IN THE FORTHCOMING GENERAL IVIUNICIPAL ELECTION
WHEREAS. the Village of Mount Prospect is a "Home Rule Unit'l as defined in the
1970 Illinois Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has heretofore conducted its general
municipal elections pursuant to the Illinois Revised Statutes made and provided
for Villages of less than 50,000 inhabitants; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect's population first exceeded 50,000 in-
habitants between the election for Trustees which was conducted in April of
1977, and the forthcoming election for Trustees to be conducted in April cf 1979;
and
WHEREAS, the Illinois Revised Statutes, Chapter 24, Section 5-2-16 and Section
3-5-3, specify that the Village Board of Trustees may provide for the election
of Trustees in a manner prescribed for Villages with less than 50,000 inhabitants;
and
WHEREAS. the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect
believe it to be in the best interests of the citizenry of the Village of P/lount Prospee
that the election of Trustees be continued on a staggered term basis as provided
for Villages of less than 50,000 inhabitants;
NOW, THEREFORE,. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSrrE.
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT:
SECTION ONE: That pursuant to the authority vested in the Village of Mount
Prospect under Article VII of the 1970 Constitution of the State of Illinois, the
President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect declare that
the forthcoming general municipal election for Trustees shall proceed in the
manner prescribed in the Illinois Revised Statutes made and provided for Vil-
lages with less than 50,000 inhabitants, with the exception that said general
municipal election shall be held on the firs.t Tuesday in April, 1979, and on
the first Tuesday in April of each odd numbered year thereafter, rather than
on the third Tuesday in April as established by Statute.
SECTION TWO: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and publication in the manner provided by l~l'W .
