Mayor Wilks opened the meeting with general remarks and introduced Trustees
and staff in attendance. Wilks then moved to the resident portion of the meeting.
Carol Tortorello, 223 S. Elmhurst Avenue: Carol brought forth several different topics for
discussion. Ms. Tortorello referred to an Arlington Heights Ordinance regarding the governing of
adult book and video stores and wondered if the Village had similar provisions in the Village
Code. Trustees responded that there was language in the Village Code that addresses this issue.
Her second item was related to an article on a special breed of exotic cat and wanted to know if
this also is addressed in the Village Code. Ms. Tortorello next referred to an article regarding
mOT funding for road projects and wondered if the Village was in line to receive some of these
funds. Staff shared that this was not the case. Her last point was on the availability of trash
receptacles nearby Keefers Drugstore. She commented that there were none in the immediate
vicinity. Staff took note of this and will follow-up at a later date.
Lee Williams, 70 South Albert: Mr. Williams shared with Trustees and staff issues regarding
weed problems, excess garbage and dogs running loose in his neighborhood. Mr. Williams,
representing his homeowner association met with the owners of the businesses bordering their
homes regarding the exterior condition of their businesses. The business owners were receptive
to cleaning up their properties. He also asked if Bob Roe1s, Environmental Health Coordinator
could follow up on some ofthe garbage and dog issues. Staff will look into the matter and get
back to Mr. Williams.
David Schein, 512 NaWaTa Trail: Mr. Schein asked if the traffic-calming workshop was still
scheduled for May 24th. Mr. Schein discussed holiday decorations and whether archways over a
public sidewalk were permitted. He thought that at some point it might become a liability issue.
Staff would look into this matter, but it was the general feeling of Board and staff that this type of
decoration would not be permitted. Mr. Schein also wanted to mention that the Youth
Commission would be present at the upcoming Board meeting to introduce under New Business
recommendations for a bike helmet program. The bike helmet program would be an incentive
driven program rather than one that penalizes those not wearing helmets.
Jim Uszler, 9 S. Elm: Mr. Uszler, Executive Director of the Mount Prospect Chamber of
Commerce wanted to announce two upcoming special events. First was a pet parade scheduled
for later in the summer. More information on the event will be available later this month.
Second, a classic car show hosted by the Downtown Merchants Group is scheduled to be held
Saturday nights during the months of June thru August from 6-9pm at the Metra lot across from
Carriage House restaurant.
In addition to responding to resident comment, there was general discussion regarding building
and zoning codes, the issuance of building permits and the processing of real estate transfer stamp
applications.
Mayor Wilks asked if there was any further business for the good of the Village. Hearing none
the meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.ill.
Respectfully Submitted,
David O. Erb
