MAYORS REPORT 4/19/05 / PROCLAMA TION "ARBOR DAY" April 29, 2005 WHEREAS, in 1872 J Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air, provide habitat for wildlife, beautify our community, and produce life-giving oxygen; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, food, wood for our homes, and fuel for our fires. NOw, THEREFORE, L Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 29, 2005, as "ARBOR DAY" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all citizens to observe Arbor Day by attending the ceremonial tree-planting at St. Emily School, 1400 E. Central Rd., on Friday, April 29, 2005, at 8:30 a.m. Gerald L. Farley Mayor ATTEST: Velma W Lowe Village Clerk Dated this 19th day of April 2005. r PROCLAMA TION "NA TIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEI(" May 1-7, 2005 WHEREAS, waterfollows a natural cycle from Earth to air to Earth again; and WHEREAS, water is a basic and essential need of every living creature,' and WHEREAS, our health, comfort, safety and standard of living depend upon an abundant supply of clean, safe drinking water,' and WHEREAS, water plays a vital role in not only our daily lives but also in our economy; and WHEREAS, the residents and consumers of the Village of Mount Prospect's drinking water should have a safe, clean and dependable supply of water both now and in the future; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect supports the efforts of the American Water Works Association in their efforts to promote, protect and celebrate water as our most precious natural resource; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerald 1. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim May 1- 7, 2005, as "NATIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEK" in the Village of Mount Prospect and 1 urge all citizens to help protect our source waters from pollution, and to practice water conservation.
