MAYORS REPORT 4/6/05 PROCLAMA TION "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" April 10-16, 2005 WHEREAS, our nation's libraries and librarians provide something for everyone; and WHEREAS, as part of the American Dream, libraries playa vital role in providing millions of people with the resources they need to live, learn and work in the 21s1 century; and WHEREAS, libraries are changing, they are dynamic places, and librarians are the ultimate search engines, helping people of all ages find the information they need in print and online; and WHEREAS, libraries bring you a world of knowledge both in person and online, as well as personal service and assistance in finding what you need, when you need it; and WHEREAS, awareness and support must be increased for libraries, librarians and library workers by raising their visibility in a positive context and by communicating clearly and strongly why libraries are both unique and valuable, and library users and non-users alike are encouraged to stand up and speak out for libraries and to support library funding efforts; and WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week with "The Campaign for America's Libraries. " NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of April 10-16, 2005 as "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" and I encourage all residents to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available. PROCLAMA TION "EARTH DA Y" APRIL 22, 2005 WHEREAS, constantly aware of the problem created by the increasing use of non-recyclable products, the United States Conference of Mayors has, as in previous years, announced the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" Earth Day Challenge; and WHEREAS, the purpose of this celebration is to emphasize the importance of preserving our natural environment through recycling; and WHEREAS, local authorities, on behalf of the community, salute the organizers of and participants in this worthy crusade aimed towards the preservation of our planet. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2005 as UEARTH DAY" and in observance thereof, I call upon every resident of the Village of Mount Prospect to join with me in the celebration of this important event.
