38-81
A RESOLUTION STATING MUNICIPAL POLICY
REGARDING PALWAUKEE AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, the communities of Wheeling and Prospect Heights are
Ii considering currently the public issue of the future development
and direction of Palwaukee Airport; and

WHEREAS, this issue has significant impact upon the residents
and neighborhoods of the northeast section of the Village of
Mount Prospect; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of
Mount Prospect have received a petition from its residents
which states in part "... While we do not oppose the airport
as it currently exists, we do êtrongly oppose the potential
I expansion of operations.";. and

WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect did sponsor an information
exchange regarding Palwaukee Airport inviting representatives
of the Airport, the Consulting Engineer, and interested citizens;
and
I
II WHEREAS, the information and ideas discussed at this meeting,
II together with reference material produced by the Airport study,
III highlight certain considerations of safety and the future
I enjoyment of life and property for residents and business
II in the area.
I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD JF TRUSTEES
II OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:

II SECTION ONE: That after due and deliberate consideration of
I the facts and opinions of all interests:

1.
The Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, opposes any
expansion of the Palwaukee facility, including the
extension of any runway of any other physical improvement
that would permit flight capability for any type of
aircraft larger than present operations.
2.
The Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, recommends that
Palwaukee Airport, its owners, and any supervising agency
implement effective and enforceable noise control
measures; including the immediate prohibition of additional
turbo-jet operations; the requirement that existing
turbo-jet owners retrofit their aircraft by 1984 to
utilize the more fuel efficient and quieter turbo-fan
engines; and that an operations curfew be established
between the hours of 11:30 P.M. and 6:30 A.M.

The Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois, urges the
Federal Aviation Administration to establish and enforce
air control activities prohibiting flight patterns near
schools and other population concentrations so as to

reduce the risk of a castastrophic incident.
SECTION TWO: That copies of this Resolution be submitted to
the Village of Wheeling, the City of Prospect Heights, the
Northwest Municipal Conference, the Federal Aviation
Administration, our area Congressional Representatives and
Senators, the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commissio~
and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
SECTION THREE: This Resolution shall be in full'force and
effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner
provided by law.
