MINUTES
October 2, 2002
Meeting was called to order at 5:31 p.m.
Present:
Commissioner Christopher Lenz, Chairman
Commissioner Marie Cotton, Secretary
Commissioner Claude Bjork
Commissioner Clyde Brooks
Commissioner Robert McKillop
Chief Richard Eddington, Police Department
Chief Michael Figolah, Fire Department
Deputy Chief Kevin Condon, Police Department
Chairman Lenz asked for any comments or questions on the minutes of the September 3, 2002
open meeting. Commissioner Brooks made a motion to accept the minutes of the September 3,
2002 meeting. Commissioner Cotten seconded the motion.
Ayes: Lenz, Cotten, Bjork, McKillop, Brooks
Nays: None Motion Carried
POLICE DEPARTMENT SERGEANTS LIST
Chief Eddington distributed the assessment center results. He explained that the evaluations
included information on areas in need of improvement for each candidate to help set up a
training regime. The Chief informed the Commissioners that there was a need to appoint a
sergeant. He will schedule a swearing in date as soon as possible.
The Chairman asked for any comments or concerns regarding the Sergeants List. A motion was
made by Commissioner Cotten to approve the Police Department Sergeants List. Commissioner
McKillop seconded the motion.
Ayes: Lenz, Cotten, Bjork, McKillop, Brooks
Nays: None Motion Carried
Chairman Lenz asked Commissioner Brooks to perforIn the swearing in.
OTHER BUSINESS
Fire Chief Figolah asked the Board for direction regarding a problem with one candidate not
being notified of the testing. This candidate had called several times over the last year to inquire

the testing date. Due to unknown causes, the candidate was dropped from that list. As a result,
the candidate was not notified of the test date. Chief Figolah contacted Stanard to see if they
could accommodate testing this candidate. Stanard agreed and suggested testing the candidate as
soon as possible to see if he falls within the group that qualified for the physical agility test.
A lengthy discussion was held by all of the Commissioners. After all of the Commissioners had
given their opinion, Chairman Lenz stated he disagreed with making an exception. He is
concerned about setting a standard and developing criteria for who gets to take a special test and
who doesn't.
Commissioner Brooks moved that the person be sent to Stanard for testing. Commissioner
McKillop seconded the motion.
Ayes: Cotten, Bjork, McKillop, Brooks
Nays: Lenz Motion Carried
Deputy Chief Condon reported to the Board regarding the next candidate on the list. The
candidate would like to pass because she was offered another job at the company she is presently
with.
Commissioner McKillop requested the Commissioners be. notified of any promotions or awards
ceremonies involving police or fire personnel in the Village.
With no further business, a motion was made by Commissioner McKillop to adjourn the
meeting. Commissioner Brooks seconded the motion.
Ayes: Lenz, Cotten, Bjork, Brooks, Mc Killop
Nays: None Motion Carried
Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
