HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 04-05 02/15/2005 vwl 2/11105 RESOLUTION NO. 4-05 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING ANY REDUCTION OF THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has a population of 56,268 residents; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has received Community Development Block Grant Funds as a direct entitlement community from the Federal Government; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect and local not-for-profit agencies have utilized Community Development Block Grant Funds in creative and significant ways to improve our community to the benefit of our citizens; and WHEREAS, Community Development Block Grant Funds have been used to improve infrastructure, for the acquisition and demolition of dilapidated structures, for the rehabilitation of single-family residences, and to promote fair housing and diversity, just to name a few; and WHEREAS, The National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Committee reports that there may be attempts at the Federal level to reduce funding for the Community Development Block Grant program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: The Mayor and Board of Trustees ofthe Village of Mount Prospect hereby find the recitals in this resolution to be true and correct. SECTION TWO: The Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect hereby oppose any attempt by the President ofthe United States or Congress to reduce funding for the Community Development Block Grant Program or to further restrict eligibility standards that effectively reduce funding for the program. SECTION THREE: The Mayor and Board of Trustees ofthe Village of Mount Prospect hereby encourage municipalities and other councils of government to take similar actions to oppose CDBG reductions. SECTION FOUR: The Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect is hereby authorized and instructed to provide a copy of this resolution to the offices of the President, to appropriate members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation, to the National League of Cities, to other councils of government, and to other appropriate elected and appointed officials. SECTION FIVE: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
