PROCLAMATION
"FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
OCTOBER 6- 12, 2019
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect is committed to ensuring the safety and security of
all those living in and visiting our community; and
WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally,
and homes are the locations where people are at greatest risk from fire; and
WHEREAS, home structure fires have caused an estimated annual average of
2,630 civilian deaths in the United States, according to the National Fire
Protection Association; and
WHEREAS, only one-third of Americans have both developed and practiced a
home fire escape plan; and
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect residents are encouraged to draw a map of their
home marking two exits from each room and a path to the outside from each
exit; and
WHEREAS, Mount Prospect residents are responsive to public education
measures and are able to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire,
especially in their homes; and
WHEREAS, the 2019 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Not every hero wears a
cape. Plan and practice your escape!" effectively serves to remind us that
being prepared and aware of your surroundings can mean the difference
between residents of our community escaping safely from a fire or having their
lives end in tragedy.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount
Prospect, do hereby proclaim October 6-12, 2019, as
"FIRE PREVENTION WEEK"
In the Village and I call upon the people of the Village of Mount Prospect to
remember the 2019 message, "Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and
practice your escape!"
