Connolly Village of Mount Prospect 100 S. Emerson Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 Dear Judy, Camp Fire Boys mid Oirls will be ~'ctending their "New Horizons" program for the children in Mount Prospect. The target area will be the southside of Mount Prospect, reaching youth from various apartment complexes: Pickwick West, Mt. Prospect Place, Timber Lakes and Prospect Commons. Camp Five is available to boys and girls attending Kindergarten through High School. Our goal for 1999 is to deliver Camp Fire programs to 80-100 children. The "New Horizons" program offers enrichment and recve~tional activities to youth. We have on-going club programs available for youth in after-school programs at two schools; John Jay and Robert Frost. We also offer occasional club program activities at the RecPlex. Camp Fire club members work on various projects from national Camp Fire books, eamiag recognition and emblem awards for their accomplishments. They learn new skills, work on community service projects, go camping, have field trips, make arts & crafts and have fun together. These club members participate in program opportunities that are council-wide ... giving the kids a chance to see that they belong to a larger unit of Camp Fire Boys and Girls, which extend throughout Cook, Lake and MeHera'y counties. Camp Fire will also offer a summer eanap program wtfieh has been held at the ReePIex in the past. lfeither of the neighborhood seh0ols would be available, we would like to offer this program at school. Summer camp is a one or two week program which higiflights Camp Fire club programs. The children also participate in community service project and go on a field trip This year we will extend our program options into the schools with some of our self-reliance courses. Camp Fire has five programs which are curriculum based, age-appropriate courses teaching children safety, peer-pressure skills and self-esteem "A Gift of Giving" is our service learning program. In this program children learn what it means to be a volunteer and how they eau give back to their community. Children identify the needs of a particular community and design their own project. Funding for this program allows Camp Fire to offer reduced membership fees for youth and adults, pay for recognition emblems and awards, uniforms, supplies and materials, cost of meeting rooms, and bus service. We are also able to off-set the cost of some trips and activities and pay for the voluateer and staff support to deliver this program.
