Juracek,Judy McGinnis, Mari Otto, Denise Rano, Trustee Colleen E. Saccotelli, Gabriel Saintus,Patricia Usnik, Robert Usnik, Barbara VanArsdale, Steve VanArsdale Not Attending: Greg Bernert,Paul Sells Guests: Janice Farley, Skip Farley L Meeting called to order: Chair Robert Usnik called the meeting to order at 6:02 PM. IL Citizens to be heard: None III. Motion to approve minutes: Barbara VanArsdale moved to approve the minutes from the March 21, 2018 meeting, Denise Rano seconded, and the minutes were approved. IV. Mayor's Comments: Mayor Arlene A. Juracek commented that she is looking forward to all the activities and events coming up in 2019 and that these were exciting times for the Commission. V. Chair's Comments: a. Plans for the July 4th parade are finalized. Public Works is again providing a truck for those members who would rather ride in the parade. There is also a new cart that will be used to carry the Peace Pole,banners and flowers. Students are welcome to participate as well. b. Assunta Mesmin from Sevres was in contact and said that a tour of the Versailles gardens will be on the agenda for our delegation in September. c. Family French Festival will be held Monday, July 8 and all Commissioners are encouraged to attend. d. Packets were distributed with photos and information about the garments we can have embroidered with the Sister Cities logo. The Commission will pay for one item per member. Those making the trip to Sevres may also order a.]acket with the logo. Questions about the apparel can be directed to Doreen Jarosz. VI. Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Greg Bernert was not in attendance and Chair Robert Usnik presented the Treasurer's Report as of April 30, 2019. Barbara VanArsdale moved to approve, Christine Barr seconded, and the report was approved. VII. Committee Reports a. Library Display—Pat Usnik and Christine Barr—The Sister Cities display was set up in the elevator display case at the library from April I through April 29, 2019. Due to concerns about the risk of damage,we chose not to display actual Sevren porcelain this year. b. New Banners—Robert Usnik presented samples of the new banners that will be produced to display at our functions. Placement and spacing of logos on the banners will be modified slightly. c. French Market—Barbara VanArsdale and Judy McGinnis—Ten vendors have signed on so far. Wine tasting would be set up by a wine club. Participants can sample wine and sign up for memberships. Licensing requirements will be researched. 1 d. French Dinner—A deposit has been made to reserve the venue, Old Orchard Country Club. Gabriel Saintus, Mari Otto, and Robert Usnik sampled the proposed menu and were pleased with the quality. A group from Tri-Tone will provide the music during cocktail hour, and the Gypsy Band(accordion and violin)will provide the post-dinner entertainment. Samples of the invitations and posters were presented. The event will be advertised in the newsletter and on Facebook, and posters will be displayed around town. The actual cost per person is between $80 and$85. The cost for attendees will be $65, and the Sister Cities Commission will cover the balance. Tables will be reserved for groups and special invitees. VIII. Open Discussion. a. Condolences went out to two Commission members who had recent deaths in their families. b. The Prospect High School French students will present bilingual presentations on May 20, 2019. Gissele Drpich distributed flyers about the event. c. Gabriel Saintus suggested partnering with Alliance Francaise to hold workshops and classes for adults and children in the French language. Mayor Arlene A. Juracek asked Gabriel to write apresentation outlining this joint effort. d. Skip and Janice Farley thanked everybody for honoring them by naming the Village Community Room after them. All agreed that it was well-deserved. IX. Adjournment. The next meeting will be on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 6:00 PM. Barbara VanArsdale moved to adjourn, and Steve VanArsdale seconded.
